Yes, singapore chinese is different from china chinese. We are chinese of a new nation, not part of china. Anyone who thinks that all chinese in this world should be loyal to China is totally dumb.

Being called a talent by the SG Govt does not make it real. That's the first thing most migrants have to accept. Everyone here has to work hard to prove him or herself. I think those foreigners should have the correct mentality. When they met troubles here, they should not expect the same assistance and treatment as the Singapore citizens. Which remains me of the issues of study mamas when they can't work in massage parlours and ask govt for help.
At that moment, I think they really think our govt is charity. They causes social problems and still need us to find work for them when we need to solve the umemployment of citizens. Funny sia! They should pack up and bring their problems home instead of demanding us to help them. -
just got to this forum.....anyway with all these talk about foreigners, or talks that go as far as foreign talent or FT for short. The question is, what really are 'foreign talents'? How do we measure talent? Someone might look like a talent but in reality, they are just dodgy and trashy. So are foreigners automatically talent - because they are foreigners? I have seen and worked with many foreigners who are really seriously sub-par, and they got their PRs, and go around 'wayang' like they are gods because they know Singapore is hungry for them. I have met and worked with good ones too, and my definition of good foreigners are those who are strong in principles, really know their stuffs, and they are willing to help/collaborate and work with locals, and even helping locals to go forth to better things. Sadly, these type of foreigners are few and far in between.
The govt want people to appreciate foreigners, but they are from 1 end of the spectrum, whereas for many of us, it's the other end. They look at stats and numbers. We are actually working with foreigners (or should I say FT?) at ground zero, experiencing the nonsense and bs.
I'd say that foreigners coming to Singapore is not a threat to our National Identity. The question is does Singapore know 'who' to let in? As I've said earlier, there are many who really should not be in Singapore. And on the other hand, does Singapore know that they too have to put strong priorities to nurture and develop their own people afterall, locals have been in SG all their lives.. carrying guns and all that? Where is the balance? -

I'd never trust a technocrat to run a government, Ministry of Finance perhaps, but not as policymakers.
This is the end result of having people who study only the hard sciences, running a government which is supposed to run the gamut on issues from economic policy to impact assessment of labour quotas in the long term. -
