    • Hello, I'm considering leaving Singapore. Like most ppl here, I don't really fancy the way our country is run, the way I'm being toy around with.

Can people who left Singapore, introduce yourself?
Where are you now? How's life different from Singapore?
      Any regret?

I don't know if this thread suits Speaker's corner, but I just want ppl to give serious reply. Thanks.

    • Just go to the Singaporeans Overseas forum - you'll find lists of quitters there. Mr. Green

Speaking for myself, I left for Australia 12 years ago, and the more Singaporean news I read, the more I know I made the right choice.

That's not to say that Oz is perfect, of course - we get our fair share of idiots in politics here, but with two major parties on the scene, there's at least a set of checks and measures and we're not forced to get out of the idiots' elitist faces. Laughing

    • left singapore for australia 1 1/2 year ago,

Reason for leaving, continuation of my immigration heritage (i am a Hakka)

Grandfather migrate from China to Malaysia, then my father from malaysia to singapore, now i am continuing the suit. I seem that we are going south all the time. May my next generation will go southpole Laughing

This bring back to the issue of Quitters. Most of the Chinese in singapore are migrants from china, come to singapore to seek for a better quality of life. the 2nd and 3rd gen are just following the suit of our forefather. So why are we been branded Quitters.

Just because we wanted to look for a better way of life for our future generations ?
Even all the top sits decision makers have forefathers that are quitters .... from china perspectives.

Most of us that migrate from sg knows that we can have a better prospective outside of singapore. And in Aus i found what i am looking for
      1) personal space and time
      2) Outback
      3) Landed property
      4) Much better quality of life (much better air quality)
the list just keeps going on....

though there are some issues that worries you.

    • Since the thread says "People who left Singapore", guess I'm one of them though I'm don't hold a red IC, blue one actually.

I came to Singapore alone when I was 8yrs old, stayed with relative. Had my primary, secondary and poly education, work for about 5 yrs. Decided that this is not the place for long term stay, I left this March and is now in Australia with my sis.

All I can say is that I'm smiling a lot more now. Very Happy

PAP are the reason why most of us are the way we are now, through the education and fear system. Yes, it's time to stand up and leave.

    • Hey thanks for replying even though I post the thread in the wrong forum.

I'm an undergrad in Aus, graduating end of the year. I'm seriously considering getting a PR in Aust and working + doing Masters here.

I also hope to visit Canada this Jan or what. I always hear good things about Canada plus Canada seems to be a very "free" country. I did some ethics assignment, researching on human rights and most materials are related to Canada. Sweet.

And lastly, I'm also a Hakka. Laughing Just like LKY

    • Helloooooooo...I'm from the other side now....ex-sillyporean...

Well, if you want the short cut version of how most of us feel...here goes

LIfe is not a bed of roses overseas either but if you work hard and smart, you will find your fortune....there are lots over there that Sillypore cannot offer...Ture, there may be corruption over there but hey, at least they are all in the open rather than this place acting clean and pure...It's just too surreal don't you think? Like things here are too staid and too perfect to be true...

      Come join us....

    • I moved to Vancouver and its WOW!!!

Sure you have to work hard and don't kid yourself you don't have to work hard. In fact you have to work harder as the people here tend to think on their feet and are innovative...remember all the things that are said about our education system....see the difference here in Canada man...or Australis, or U.S. and I even dare say..China....

Hey all, let start posting pictures here to convince our fellow people in making a better choice....after all, pictures tell a 1,000 words

    • My reason to leave:
      1. Gahmen ****up
Pay and Pay, Rise and Rise. But money in pocket not enough to pay for the rise, how?

      2. Opposition ****up
Ok, I thought I saw hope in Opposition in GE 2006. But then, after I saw how they do things in Sammyboy forum, I think I would rather forsake my vote in the next GE.

      3.146th
There is nothing wrong with media control. But saying we don't need media freedom is Evil or Very Mad. I just don't wish to be part of a storm in a teacup.

      4. Elitist
This one is the one that make up my mind. I personally thought I didn't know any elitist before the Triple Wee saga. But after this matter blows up, I compare her characteristic with so of my friends. OMG! It's a match!!

So I think, maybe it's not that safe to be in Singapore after all. I don't mind being branded a loser or a deserter but to prevent any future ending life by jumping off the tracks, I think I better get prepare to pack my bags.

I'm thinking of leaving but maybe the leaving part comes after my parents have ....

Mmmm, Coquitlam, does learning how to speak French helps? If so, is it too late to learn that language now? Do they need Chinese teachers? Embarassed
