  A couple of Post Docs in the lab I'm working in were just talking to me about it.
  
  I just simply told them, this is Singapore. It is absurd, but we can't do anything about it.

  This is one of the practical reasons why we need an opposition in the Government. How can one approve of one own's pay rise? Peg to the private sector. Mr Lee- wake up! Do you know how salaries are adjusted in the pte sector? It has to be approve by the board of directors- and who are our board in this case. Pls tell me you didn't talk to yr daddy over dinner yesterday evening!!!
