I feel the government is absolving themselves from any responsibilities for the Aging Populace...

No democratic government in the world, denies welfare, pension, or medical assurances, for their own Aging Populace (Medisave and CPF are illusions)... only this one.. ours. Which by the way, weren't voted-in for by many but yet...

    • I think Singaporeans are pitiful to have voted in, given so much power to this government and are now suffering for it. They were told to put aside, at one time 40% of their income for retirement and are now told that it would not be enough (and so many old people have to work as cleaners in hawker centers)... Pitiful Singaporeans, Your Government PAWNED You.

    • Nothing to feel about.

Won't get most of my CPF money, especially if i am dead before 85.

What's there to like? Start investing what's around now.

Finally, start thinking about retiring else where.

To retire elsewhere requires one to have secured PR-ship well in advance, in anticipation of more stringent laws of the said country.

And many things change over the course of 50 years....

      1. Medisave, Medishield, MediFund, ElderShield but does is not even enough to cover medical cost

      2. "Proposed anuality" that pushes the responsibilities to taking care to the elderly to the people

      Mad Mad Mad

So farking sad isn't it? No place for Singaporeans to grow old and die in their own country. Why? Because we are ruled by a bunch of public money grabbing, dishonorable dictators.

    • why do we see an aging population as a problem? is it because the garment say so? only when we stop seeing as a problem but as a natural progression of a country then can we tackle this demographic change.

    • considering the amount of propaganda we get about how “good” life in Singapore is, when they say there is a problem, you can bet that there is a HUGE problem.

My point being, in 10 years there may be changes in our govt that may make you re-consider your position to emigrate...duh

What are the odds that anything will change in Singapore? Short of a mass revolt, it is highly unlikely the opposition will gain significant presence. It is not beneath the ruling party to use state apparatus as they so choose to.

When Old Lee becomes history, i believe things will change. At present, such things cannot yet materialize for as long as he continues to exert his influence.

    • if u compare us wif malaysia, most family households give birth to 4 to 7 children even though they are poor.

whereas in sg, most of us can only afford 1 child or 2?

when most of us in sg grow old, no one are going to take care of us. i guess we r screw badly to have such a government in sg.

at least in malaysia, pple think their government r bias against chinese, yet they can manage to afford to fight for their survival despite having more mouth to feed in the family.

True. So we have to hope the Government screws up mighty big time after the old man takes his turn in the grave.

But truth to tell, there are lots of people in power, who believe in his style of leadership, and they would go to extreme ends. If we think idiots like Mat Toro, Gazelle and Oxford Mushroom are unique, that is where we are wrong. What might come after might be a dictatorship in an attempt to preserve status quo.

Even economists believe that OLD Lee's leadership is the way to go for developing countries. As much as the west criticises violation of human rights worldwide, they in fact are fueling it in the name of development and globalisation.

A good question to ask, only heaven knows the answer. Probably the King of Hell is unwilling to let him go for he is afraid his position will be taken over.
