By quoting what I said, it only goes to show that your perception of Temasek and GIC investment is like speculating on the stock markets where you can enter and exit anytime you want whenever the stock price is favourable. Beside talking about stock price, you have also failed to understand the longterm and strategic benefit in the investment.
If Temasek and GIC were to practise your speculative style of short term investment, GIC funds would have been long gone and they would have been banned from buying into blue chip companies long time ago.
By quoting the below statement, it only shows that you dont take into consideration the sequence of events that happened before and after the investment. i've been following these discussions for some weeks now, wondering if we might all trade some views but the more I read, the more I despair...
U guys are ALL a bunch of hopeless losers. This discussion has degenerated to the level of indiscriminate flaming and trolling and senseless personal attacks.
In your attempts to slime the ruling party and paint them as ruthless uncaring despots who oppress the pple, u pple have used pretty much the same devices to attempt to shut down pple who disagree with u.
Don't agree? No need to reason or convince. Just insult, dig up old threads to destroy the other person's credibility and call the other person stupid.

Stocks Jump on Report That Merrill May Get Cash Infusion From Singapore Fund
NEW YORK (AP) --
Adding to investors' upbeat mood, The Wall Street Journal reported that Merrill Lynch & Co., facing hefty writedowns due to losing bets on subprime mortgages, may get a capital infusion of as much as $5 billion. The money is expected to come from Singapore state-owned investment agency Temasek Holdings Pte. Ltd., a fund that in late July said it would buy a 1.77 percent stake in Barclays PLC for $2 billion.
Sovereign funds have been providing troubled U.S. and European banks with much-needed cash. Over the past month, the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority bought a stake in Citigroup Inc. for $7.5 billion; the Government of Singapore Investment Corp. invested $9.75 billion in UBS AG; and this week China Investment Corp. paid $5 billion for a stake in Morgan Stanley. -

The "deal" should be more accurately reported as UBS had "approached" GIC with a preposition and GIC had expressed positive interest, subject to the approval of UBS shareholders...
The press may have jumped the gun a bit or treated it as a fait accompli, which isn't really wrong because the odds are that it must go forward... The reason why UBS chose the SWF route is simple: no one else has that kind of money to invest in this current situation.
As of now, I don't think GIC has signed anything yet... The $$$ is still in GIC's bank accounts. -
