I'm still waiting for the wanker to address his self-contradicting follies...Originally posted by Gazelle:Mr. Armchair,
You want to talk about opportunity cost and here I am asking you why you say that Barclays investment is not an opportunity,
1) What other opportunities do you have in mind that will yield better returns than Barclays in the medium and long term?
2) Do you think buying a big stake into bluechip company with about US$2 trillion in asset and capable of generating about S$22 billion profit a year, is not an OPPORTUNITY?
Over to you Mr. Wanker!!
Do we need to form a formidable team?Originally posted by Gazelle:Wah, you guys are forming quite a formidable team here huh?
Andrew (Self proclaimed investment guru)
Walesa (No. 1 armchair financial critic)
Eagle (No.1 Bai Jia Zi)
By quoting the below statement, it only shows that you dont take into consideration the sequence of events that happened before and after the investment. Like I have said, armchair critics are only capable for demostrating how smart they are AFTER the event, not before.Originally posted by Gazelle:If you dont intend and need to cash out your investment, there is really no need to worry about that. As Warren Buffet said, when he buy into the company, he would like to hold on to it forever and his company's result speaks for itself.

Why don't you start addressing your follies before churning out one question after another in your feebly desperate attempt to skirt round whatever comes your way?![]()

You're boring me stiff with your darting antics. Rather than repeating your questions, why don't you address your self-contradictory tendencies so I can move on to address your issues? Or are wankers incapable of that?Originally posted by Gazelle:When Temasek and GIC make such a huge investment, you can rest assure that they would have seek investment banks to do countless round of valuation on their investment before making the plunge.

And what does the part in red make you? A diversity-embracing, magnanimous gentleman?Originally posted by CX:i've been following these discussions for some weeks now, wondering if we might all trade some views but the more I read, the more I despair...
U guys are ALL a bunch of hopeless losers. This discussion has degenerated to the level of indiscriminate flaming and trolling and senseless personal attacks.
In your attempts to slime the ruling party and paint them as ruthless uncaring despots who oppress the pple, u pple have used pretty much the same devices to attempt to shut down pple who disagree with u.
Don't agree? No need to reason or convince. Just insult, dig up old threads to destroy the other person's credibility and call the other person stupid.
If this is the quality of discussion generated by so called "concerned citizens", then I'ld rather everyone just shaddap... I trust depots with vision more than rebels without a clue.
By calling others hopeless losers, you are no better as well. Dun act like some mature and knowledgable wise man when you are not.Originally posted by CX:i've been following these discussions for some weeks now, wondering if we might all trade some views but the more I read, the more I despair...

If it is old threads you are concerned about, let me assure you that it is just one particular forumer who likes to start that, in addition to a liking of making a photocopy of previous posts to either bury certain questions deep within the thread or to make himself a nuisance. And of course, when your credibility is being questioned, you would defend yourself, wouldn't you?Originally posted by CX:Don't agree? No need to reason or convince. No... certainly not a "diversity-embracing, magnanimous gentleman" if it means that I have to accept your senseless drivel as "meritorious free speech".Originally posted by walesa:And what does the part in red make you? A diversity-embracing, magnanimous gentleman?
Or are you for a moment suggesting anyone who conducts himself/herself in a manner unacceptable to you as being a rebel to be just beyond reproach? I suppose you're the only one entitled to exercise your right to the freedom of speech?
I am concerned about the quality of discussions in this forum as a whole.Originally posted by eagle:If it is old threads you are concerned about, let me assure you that it is just one particular forumer who likes to start that, in addition to a liking of making a photocopy of previous posts to either bury certain questions deep within the thread or to make himself a nuisance. Well, I would like to see you engage in a conversation with GazelleOriginally posted by CX:I am concerned about the quality of discussions in this forum as a whole.
Its worrying when pple stop discussing issues and start discussing "street creds"... This is a FORUM for goodness sake!
What are u pple? Concerned citizens talking up a storm? Or kids engaged in a pissing contest?
Free speech is not about who wins! Its about what gets said! And you bunch are not saying much...

Surely GIC must have had the credible assurance from UBS that the deal will go thro' notwithstanding the fact it is subject to shareholders' approval before GIC signed on the dotted line ...... not like us to go in with our 'pants down' and nothing to show for later.[/b][/i]Originally posted by CX:![]()

its always frustrating when pple are talking over each other's heads and strong words are exchanged.
Anyway, back to the point: GIC may not get to invest in UBS as the deal is still subject to approvals and some of their shareholders do not like the deal.
It could be a case where SWF are still viewed with suspicions and where its money is still not welcomed.
I wouldn't want to get a bigot wrong - I can't possibly get you wrong, can I? After all, what could possibly become of mindless harp?Originally posted by CX:No... certainly not a "diversity-embracing, magnanimous gentleman" if it means that I have to accept your senseless drivel as "meritorious free speech".
And don't get me wrong... I certainly recognize your right to articulate such senseless drivel. I am simply telling u how I feel about it. Free speech yah?

Mindless harp could degenerate into *gasp* walesa!!!Originally posted by walesa:I wouldn't want to get a bigot wrong - I can't possibly get you wrong, can I? After all, what could possibly become of mindless harp?
Trade insults? It's just an avenue for freedom of expression, ain't it?Originally posted by CX:Mindless harp could degenerate into *gasp* walesa!!!
Come now... There are more meaningful things to talk about than to trade insults all day.
Some of us have strong views and it would reflect well on all of us if we could articulate them without making overly personal remarks about each other.
Me bad on the "hopeless loser" remark. So maybe we can all grow up instead of trading insults every time a new thread pops up.
U can almost predict the outcomes... Andrew makes a comment, Gazelle rebuts, Deathbait joins the slugfest, Walesa throws himself into the ring, Eagle flips the bird and joins the fun and VOILA! We have a complete SG-Forums Speaker's Corner discussion
Meaningless right![]()

Its a selfish mode of "freedom of expression" because u express and gratify yourself at the expense of others.Originally posted by walesa:Trade insults? It's just an avenue for freedom of expression, ain't it?
So what are you doing sticking up your thoughts here if you regard the stuff traded here to be to your utter disdain? It'd be a lot more meaningful if you looked elsewhere and not engage with "losers" if you reckon this to be meaningless...
Who determines if any given mode of "freedom of expression" is selfish? You? I suppose you were encouraging and facilitating communication by labelling others "losers" eh?Originally posted by CX:Its a selfish mode of "freedom of expression" because u express and gratify yourself at the expense of others.
Hence, u are no longer encouraging or facilitating communication but oppressing it.
True freedom of expression is not a matter of "anything goes". It is a system of open-mindedness and trust, that the other person will accept your right to say certain things even if he or she does not agree with u.
I am here because I do regard some of the views traded to be meaningful but I am sickened because it has a tendency to degenerate into trolling, flaming and insults after 1 day or so.
We can all do much better than this...
And I view the reasons for my presence here to be well... MY reasons and my choices. Whether I look elsewhere or participate in forums elsewhere is none of your business.
