Norway has "work camps", where people from other Nations go to work and send mone home. But their work camps and construction workers are different. They do not come from poor Nations but rich ones.
Such as Sweden, UK, USA, France. That must give you an idea of how rich those people are.
However I do not like to live there cause of Taxes. I thought I post this cause a lot of people here want to move to a "better" place.

One of my friends (PRC) who went over there for company training said it's her dream country (despite the high taxes, anyway is cancelled out by the social welfare and high salaries). She has been working in Singapore for a year before she went.

I wouldn't say that it is rampant and i don't know how true but my Norwegian contact claims that there are many druggies who sleep on the streets and buy drugs with welfare money.
Punishment for major crimes are very low as well, 7-12 years for murder, you get the point. Coloured people do not have a nice time there as well.
He came to Singapore and claimed that it is a much nicer place. We think otherwise. Bottomline is, the grass is always greener on the other side and i suppose we can only judge for ourselves if we live there for a couple of years.

Care to illustrate more on the pros and cons of the local legal system vs oversea ?

frankly, i would really really want to stay on in singapore for as long as i can. raised in sembawang kampong and a toa payoh heartlander, i wouldnt have think of migrating out of SG anytime in the 80s or 90s, but after the year 2001, things had changed so rapidly, u see sooooo many FTs coming in and how the govt has forsaken their obligation to secure a good livelihood for an average SG family, instead rewarding themselves heaps upon heaps of $$$ while continue to exploit the citizens for their own goals. And i cant turn a blind eye to all these craps that are happening in sg.

Fellow forumer,
Great men think alike, so as i say. I used to be very patriotic. During NS some of my army rightly brand me as 'lunatic' whenever i start discussions on national defense.
However that was before i start working. Then i noticed the way changes occuring and progress in singapore is not healthy and in my view not sustainable. There are a number of my fellow engineers, tech and foreman in their 40s who used to hold higher positions and higher salary. But changes in the cost structure mean that they are no longer competitive (salary) both locally and internationally.
They not only have to compete with local grads but FTs... and lot of them were forced to leave for lower position and pay.
That make me think, if i am young i can work 16hrs a day for 7 days. but When you are at their age can you do that. Also at 40s you will be loaded with numerous financial burden, house, car, utility bills, kids, medical, etc etc... So if i am in their shoe in the near future can my family survive ?
That change me totally, from a patriot to a quitter .....

I do not know how to say this without being offencive please forgive me. But what the hell do you have a military for? If the USA or China would decide to invade you would only add to collateral damage.
No seriously there are many city states. Such as Monaco et c. They are basicly one city and a Nation. None of them have a military. Why does Singapore have one? What can a City army do?

Awwww......
That's pathetic.
Even our cabinet ministers get many times over their PM.
Maybe they should consult our MM and PM on the basics of sucking more $$$ from the population.
Even our GDP per capita is higher than Norway.

That's why all our ministers are justified in having salaries of afew millions.

What can a City army do?sinkapore's army is to `kounter' the malay presence in SEA, and to protect territorial rights of her sovereign land shld the unthinkable happen, i.e. malaysia or indonesia show its aggressive nature.
the territorial make-up singapore is in necessitates it. u don't want to be a sitting duck. what happened years ago during `emergency' and during konfrontasi years ago is real. u n i probably weren't born yet.
if your `rationale' holds true, then many city states, including countries other than what you mentioned should not even have an army, becos good ol' USA and China will over run most countries. what good would folks like thailand, malaysia, timbuktu or itali have armies? china and USA will streamroll anyway...but your `enemies' is not just the big 2 or 3.
and sinkapore is buddies with the chinese and usa. you r hyping the theories. imagine all the US/Chinese business presence here in Sinkapore that'll get hit.
duh...are u acting `blur' or really blur?Edited by weiqimun 04 Jan `08, 8:41AM

Care to illustrate more on the pros and cons of the local legal system vs oversea ?That was from a 'Norwegian contact', in case you didn't read properly. A couple of months ago, I met a Norwegian lass at the pub, and she said she adored life here.
Travel the world and talk to more people - you'll learn that every place has its pros and cons.
