    • say, a family has 4 kids with a take home pay of 2k, is it even possible to survive?
With basic necessities rising, it's really taking a tow on them. I tink it is not enough for their basic meals, much less generate some savings.. Neutral

If the 4 kids are schooling, it's tough.

    • Why is it not possible? Just that very little luxury items, tough and little savings Sad

And with 2k salary, why have 4 kids in the first place? Why not just 1 or 2? In Singapore, more kids = more money needed, unlike rural areas in China. This part could be a bit more realistic.

      Can survive
But that means no eating out at all
      Fast food is a luxury
      And you cannot fall sick

    • I have a neighbour... he's Malay, and to date he has 2 kids..

his wife has to stay home to look after the two toddlers, being that he can't afford a maid, and parents are too old and sickly to help out in any way...

... he now holds 3 jobs just so he can support his family of 2 kids, a wife, and aging sick parents...

They live in a 4 room HDB apartment...

how or what, do you call this, Family planning nightmare, Urge of the flesh, or simply gung ho about life in SG?

    • Hmm.. not meant to be a racist.. but hvt you guys realise that most malay families have no family planning concept?

Is it their religion banning them from practising familiy planning or?

Whatever it is... quite a number of Malay families are now better off than decades ago... which is good, because they tend to multiply like hamsters...

Actually it's not true. I think you are looking at the older generation.

    • the difference between a malay parent and chinese parent is this (as told by my chinese friend)

chinese parent sees children as liability (tuition, bills, school etc)

malay parents sees children as assets (source of joy, income, family, company)

I'd say chinese are more practical and calculative in nature - they plan and ensure they have enough to live within their means

    • According to the government, the poor can survive on $300 a month.

So for a family with 2 adults and 4 kids, to survive, the family needs to spend $1,800 (6 x 300) a month to survive.

      Not too bad.

There is still $200 that can be saved for the parents' retirement. Laughing
