Good luck to all elderly singaporeans!!!!!
Retirement means 'death', so don't stop working: MM Lee
By Clarissa Oon
'With nothing to do, no purpose in life, you'll just degrade, go to seed,' said Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew who turns 85 this year.
A SEDENTARY retirement will sound the death knell for anyone, said Singapore's Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, ruling out this concept for himself.
"With nothing to do, no purpose in life, you'll just degrade, go to seed,' he said on Friday at a dialogue session during a conference on ways to tap the seniors' market in Singapore and the region.
Mr Lee, who turns 85 this year, said that an active life, regular exercise and frequent travel were his secrets to ageing gracefully.
The biggest punishment a man can receive, he said, is 'total isolation', which he defined as 'if you're not interested in the world and if the world is not interested in you.'
Speaking at the Silver Industry Conference and Exhibition (Sicex), held at the Suntec Convention Centre, MM Lee also defended the Central Provident Fund scheme and argued against pensions for the elderly, which have to be supported by tax revenues.
The CPF scheme, he said, helps Singapore to remain competitive, as it aims for 'minimum tax rates and maximum self-sufficiency'.
'This way you are not passing the burden (of caring for the elderly) to the next generation,' he added.
More details of MM's words to come later.

if everyone get to receive that much amount of money like LKY does, i'm sure no one would complain much about not being able to retire..
oh yea, by the way, by retiring it does not means 'doing nothing, no prupose in life' .. it means enjoying your fruit of labour that you have tolled all these years and giving yourself a pat in the back and say 'well done' to yourself and your body..
stop poisoning your 'peasants' minds..LKY

Yalor. I thought people are the most important resource in this resource-scare land. Yet, this is the way the people are treated. They make you live longer so they can milk you for your medical expenses, and other bills by state-owned enterprises, while at the same time getting productivity out of you at discounted rates for the long hours of work.

You are right. I agree. It is useless to stay on this piece of mosquito swamps. No natural resource, only some called "Human". We worked like horse and cow everyday. I rather be a a horse and cow in Australia rather than be a human in Singapore. Endless string of work and expense to worry about. Medical expenses too!
I think we Singaporean just work too hard including me. Work from 8am to 10pm. Brainless breed. Always timid in front of boss and employer.

You people determine what sg is and will be.
waiting for something or someone to save us is useless and futile.
you must do something for yourself in order that your dream can come true.
democracy means its up to you and not up to someone or something else to help you. you and only you can make it happen.
vote wisely. the impact is on you definitely.
We are all responsible in our own ways for the status quo. good or bad I cannot say for fear of my life.
YES! you hold part of the responsibility. This reminds me of a saying "blame not the rapist but why you wore scantily and willing to bend and please" - figure of speech.Edited by reddressman 12 Jan `08, 9:23PM

Thank you for pointing that out. I found it very informative and I was impressed with her. The issues she raised were relevant.
Was there any response?

... it would always take nothing short of sh|t hitting the fan for them to wake up their bloody ideas, and make hasty U-Turns ... as it has come to past with many of their previous policies throughout their 4 self-glorifying decades ....
