still believe what? its true? the malays get full subsidy!!! the only things they have to pay is the miscellaneous fees, which could be around $8 for secondary students...
so in all, Malays pay $8.
The rest of singaporean citizens, around $13.
im not being petty here. cause when their education get higher, cost goes up to.
plus theres this thing i know, its called the TTFS.
What is the Tertiary Tuition Fee Subsidy For Malays?
The Tertiary Tuition Fee Subsidy For Malays (TTFS) used to be known as `Free Tuition For Malay Students' prior to 1991.This scheme, administered by the Public Service Commission (PSC) was given automatically to all Malay students studying in the Polytechnics, National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological Institute upon their application to the PSC.
Where does the fund come from?
The Fund is from the Singapore Government. To start of, the government gave MENDAKI an initial sum of S$10 million. A further S$7 million was given in December 1991 due to the increased number of Malay students eligible for tertiary education. This fund is not taken from the Mosque Building and MENDAKI Fund contributed by Muslim employees. The surplus from the administration of the TTFS is then used for other education-related activities conducted by MENDAKI.
How much subsidy will an eligible student get?
There are two categories of subsidy:
- 100% subsidy for those whose monthly family income is $2,000 and below
- 70% subsidy for those whose monthly family income is between $2,000 and $3,000.
Example 1:
A polytechnic student's tuition fee for each academic year is $2,100 (based on 2006/07 tuition fee). If the student's monthly family income is $2,850, he/she will be eligible for the 70% subsidy. MENDAKI will therefore pay $1,470 and the student will pay $630 a year.
Example 2:
A Science undergraduate's tuition fee is $6,110 per year (2006/07 tuition fee). If the student's monthly family income is $1,500, he/she will be eligible for the 100% subsidy. MENDAKI will pay the full $6,110 for the student each year.[/b]

What other privileges does the Malay receive in Singapore?
And what are the actual amount that the rest of the Singaporeans have to pay?
i support this small privilege for the malays.
beside, primary and secondary schooling fees are quite cheap in sg.

If I am not wrong the Malays here do have some privilages but not to the extent of that of Malaysia..... Maybe it's because they are still considered as the 'bumiputeras' of Singapore also.
The privilages they enjoy here includes:
Having their language (Malay) being the national language of Singapore.
Having the national anthem sung in their language.
And of course, the school fee waiver thingy.......Edited by toll123 13 Jan `08, 9:18AM

Yea there is something called the mendaki, even during the poly administration there is a form of subsidy for malay students to have a little bit more reduction to the fee.
I'm half malay, so not eligible.
Its no big deal, nothing to talk about, and am very surprised TS doesn't know about this until now.

The one i am looking out for is the University Tuition Subsidy, which can reach up to 70% or 100%. And tuition fees at University isnt little okay. it might reach to $7000 a year....
