Someone could have been killed, as usual blames on monsoon and strong wind. Come on , monsoon season dont happpen this year or last, and haven't they heard of climate change ?
If they cannot manage so many trees, chop them off for goodness sake before lives are lost .

... I have voiced this concernd in 2006... but well, as usual more sh|t has to happen before "authorities" decides to trim over-hanging branches of old trees along expressways and in carparks...
... I agreee that having trees is a good thing, however, if their branches are left to grow outwards over roadways, accidents are waiting to happen... and more so, when old tress are not checked for deases that weakens their roots causing them to topple over easily, or break during storms to strong winds... there'd be more flatten or semi-crushed vehicles and or dead/injured people ...
... and like I've said, Laws here protects & indemnifies the government, while we are all under its mercy...

Most Singaporeans have little knowledge of the law and the judgement in the courts here are more prudent. That's why most legal actions are constrained.
Berry v. Sugar Notch Borough
Brief Fact Summary
Plaintiff was running his car on borough street in a violent wind storm. As he passed under a tree, it was blown down crushing the roof of his car and causing him serious injury. Plaintiff was running his car in excess of the speed limit as permitted by a borough ordinance.
Rule of Law and Holding
Plaintiff's rate of speed did not cause or contribute to the harm that he suffered. His actions did not increase the foreseeable likelihood that a tree would fall on his car. It cannot be said that plaintiff was contributorily negligent. Thus, Plaintiff's recovery is sustained.

please la..this is due to weather and natural causes..so u want NEA to chop down all the trees?

Most of the aging trees are planted about the same time, eg those along jurong west st 41/51 or long bt timah road stretch., you can see they are very old but still standing, it take only a sudden burst of wind of to fell them. As they get older the frequency of such accidents will increase, the day will come when several trees will collapse on the same time if still they think the aging trees are more precious than that of human lives.

these are freak accidents man. what can u do about it? chop em all up? best way to deal with it is trim the branches.
trees and its leaves are useful and important to a clean environment. would u believe our air would have been much much more polluted if there weren't any trees? they act like filters and collect the dust on their leaves and they cleanse our air. and do u know that 1 tree is equivalent to 10 huge aircons? they're a function of weather mind you.
juz becuz one tree fell and destroyed a $1000 windshield ppl start wanting to take down trees. death/injury caused by falling trees/branches are not quite common, driving is.

Brings back memories of the lamp post that fell in the basketball court killing the teenager.
Perhaps it was an Act of God that the lamp post fell killing the boy, or was it the responsibility of the Town Council to check and ensure that equipments in the HDB estate is in working order.
Surely rusty bolts could not have occured overnight with rain or dog piss.

Finally something positive I can contribute.
From experience I can say that if you notice problems with trees with rotten/overhanging branches/deadwood etc, you can write in to the NParks.
They will send a team down very quickly to do the necessary trimming. I have done so a few times in the past and was very pleased with their response. Just a short letter describing the location and state of the tree was sufficient.
As far as tree trimming is concerned, you can make a difference. Their resources are limited and while they conduct regular pruning/trimming, you can help them by highlighting to them any problem areas you see.

Say, don't you have any homework to do since school has already started.
THought i created this topic here because some people from the Homework forum were inept. Not that i can't solve this qns but someone else obviously don't believe my workings, so i thought i had to prove to them.
This is a primary six qns though.
Mrs Lee bought a packet of rice from the grocery shop. she used 3/4 of the rice and another 1/4KG of the rick to cook lunch. Then she used 3/4 of the remaining rice to cook dinner and another 1/2KG of rice to make shushi rolls. Finally, se used the remaining 1/4KG of the rice to make rick cakes. How much rice did mrs lee buy from the grockery shop?

That lampost case had different aspects, mostly because there was a life lost. A mother's son. Someone had to be accountable. Some fault had to be pinpointed. Someone's head had to roll.
Tree crashing on a car? Superficial damage. Act of God. If your insurance covers, great. But you can be sure as hell National Parks will not offer compensation. because it will start a precedent. And the floodgates will open for other claims.
The line has to be drawn somewhere.
