Moscow says they are confident of beating Singapore in bid to host Youth Olympic Games.
They have better infrastructures and proven sporting event.
..."Experience is our number one strength," said the Russian. "We hosted the World Youth Games in 1998, with young athletes from 135 countries coming to Moscow.
"Our citys infrastructure for sports is solid. We have up to 30 sports events annually and have hosted international sports events such as the Volleyball European Championship (2007) and Athletics World Indoor Championship (2006).
"Experience is very important and with less than two years to put it together, Moscow already have a team of professionals in place to do a good job."
In its report issued two days ago, the IOCs sixmember Evaluation Commission felt that Singapore and Moscow would present the least risk to the IOC in organising the 1st Summer Youth Olympic Games.
The only advantage we have is - The Good Weather!

Actually i dun understand why are ppl so excited about this 2010 thing?
What do you gain?
You get more money?
Unless you own hotels or shops catering to the atheletes etc, you will get money. Or if you're the govt, you will get more revenue from taxes
But if you are just an ordinary employee?
What do you get? Only have to endure the crowd and the road closures, and what have you?

I'm not trying to be a wet blanket
but sometimes i feel that Singaporeans just support whatever the govt says without much thinking.
the olympics will just be here for a week or two. i dun see how that is gonna create long term jobs once their money goes out. F1 maybe as it happens every year but a one-off sporting event?
like i said, unless u own hotels, catering services etc, or ur the govt, i dun see why you should be blindly excited about it.

the crowd and road closures will bring in more funds than anything else. remember that we Singapore do not have any natural resources to gain funds from. so our income would be greatly from tourism.
by hosting this event, we can forsee a large influx of funds from the spendings of the athletes, committees and others that had come for this international event.
this event will open up temp jobs for those looking for part time jobs. there will be a forward movement in the economy. so why is it not good for us?

i think sinkapore will get it.
but if u know the ioc culture, it's riddled with bribes and undertable negotiations. i think sinkapore will bribe its way in, unless moscow is able to pull something bigger.
youth olympics is way over-rated. it's like the youth WC, under 18 WC, etc. if you go to those hosting venues or watch it on telly, it is played to empty terraces. similarly, i doubt majority of sinkaporeans will give a hoot. it will only appeal to the FTs, portion of the youth, the sinkapore elites and certain segment of the population. i doubt it will be a revenue generator. other than the participants, there will not be droves of ppl who will come here just to watch the youth games. this talk about increased tourism is baloney. get real!
sinkapore got a new sports hub, so it is quite appropriate to showcase it. the other reason is the `feel good' factor. however, sinkapore is at least 10 years late in this game.
there is a lot of hype. and just hype.
but sinkapore will be pronunced winner and tt will make quite a few ppl's political stock price rise immeasurably.
me, i will stick to my EPL. or if it is off season, i might take a holiday abroad. better still, i might be settled elsewhere already by then already.

They have great experience, but we are great organizers. Singapore's weakness of being small is a strength of hers. It makes things easier to organize. How lost can you get in Singapore as compared to Russia?

But ultimately, between experience and organization, both are just as important. I would say Russia has a great chance just as we do.

The poodles are money-minded, so are the peasants.
No one think about:
- the chance to witness future stars in action.
- to observe and learn how the rest of sportsmen trained.
- proud to host a world-class event in the country.
What we are thinking:
- Money to be spend by the sportsman.
- Money to be brought in by the spectators and supporters.
- Money for the sponsorship and telecast right.
- Money for the part-timers and businessmen.
Juts like the WTO held the other time.
All the noise, all the false flower and all the nuisance.
For the poodle, the guy is just trying show off to clinch the event.
Whether he is good at serving the people, nobody knows.
He is just the poster boy.

The various countries get to vote who hosts the Youth Olympics.
It boils down to which country has more friends.
I won't be surprised if Moscow wins coz I think the Russians may be doing some horse-trading in the background. So you are saying Singapore has no friends?

One more day to know the outcome to this youth Olympig bid. Singapore even put up a party to celebrate... What if we lose???!!!!
<Padang Party to greet Youth Olympic Games bid outcome
Wed, Feb 20, 2008
ONE more day. That is all that separates the world from knowing whether Singapore or Moscow will host the inaugural 2010 Youth Olympic Games (YOG).
Starting from 5.30pm on Thursday, Singaporeans can be part of The Final Countdown party at the Padang.
The party will climax with the live satellite announcement of the winner from the IOC headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland at 7pm.
Two giant LED screens have been put up in front of City Hall, where the public can catch the eight-minute broadcast at 7 pm.
Over 5,000 people, dressed in red, are expected to turn up.
Festivities include performances by Asian Idol Hady Mirza and Project Superstar winners Daren Tan and Tan Diya on the stage at the steps of City Hall.
The result will round off over seven months of hard work by Singapore's bid committee - work that included submitting a comprehensive candidature file, securing financial and infrastructural guarantees and making a presentation to the IOC.
From nine cities in October, a shortlist of five was made in November, then whittled down to two last month.>To be frank, I'm more interested to know if I have won my 10 million $$ TOTO tmr.
