Vote for a overpaid party now they are too concentrated with money
asking people to go for cheaper food. What for people pay these
highest paid so called talents still have to suffer inflation?
PAP can't protect Singaporeans even from inflation i don't
think they deserve to be paid the highest. Shame on you PAP
and the Lees. Your performance has shown that your pays are
unjustify which has shown no different between robbers robbing

and he saves $600 a year!

not surprising. whenever PM say something, the ST will go find
someone that did that and publish it in the papers so everyone will
do the same. This tatic is too old.

maybe next time the PM will say walk or cycle to work more. Then
maybe i will appear in the paper saying i can save so much a year
by cutting down on taking public transports. and PM will want you
all to follow my way. <img src=

cheap... ie NTUC bread, NTUC cheese, etc... And the quality is not

seriously, because NTUC is not the cheapest. Nor is it the best in
any aspect. The current competition is sufficient to keep prices
low. We have the mega-marts Carrefour and Giant, the budgeters
Sheng Siong, Prime Mart and Shop & Save. NTUC and Cold Storage
are still the more expensive ones. But Cold Storage brings in
premium overseas brands and foodstuffs mainly.

And so the
last in line is surprisingly NTUC.

After going
around to buy foodstuffs, I still prefer Carrefour and Cold Storage
for reasonable prices and quality.

Perhaps I
may be wrong because I am not such an expert in this area. However,
NTUC is definitely not on my list. Where do you do your grocery
purchase?

PM Lee asked us not to eat branded bread replied by MS @ Tue, 05 Feb 2008 10:51:52 +0800

Let us look at things from a more
matured viewpoint.

The
current government is enticed by their own pre election promises
with the current rupture of prices. With the call to encourage
citizens to buy house brand groceries in order to reduce
expenditure is certainly a good way to tackle the
plight.

By
encouraging people to patronize NTUC is certainly not going to
reflect well on the integrity of the government as we all know
where does NTUC leads to up the hierarchy.

We do
have many other house brands which offer competitive prices with
reasonable quality.

First
Choice (Cold Storage), Carrefour and Giant definitely fits the
bill. And if location is a concern, Shop and save, Prime marts
which sell groceries at unbelievable prices are also better
alternatives.

I
don’t patronize NTUC anymore even though it is only a 5 minute
drive away as the main reason is because the NTUC prices are
actually generally not that attractive. Not even products packed
under the house brand.

The
government’s rejection to pleas from the public to curb prices of
certain products is a wise move made. It is the most perilous move
to take to limit investor’s profits by forceful legislation. This
not only forces the possibilities of products withdrawal, it will
also lead to quality compromisation with the same brand name. If
there is no means of production that will aid cost reduction,
ultimately someone will have to shoulder the extra costs of
bringing in a more expensive item. And in case of withdrawal, the
house brands will be in a more
strategic location to claim monopoly. And naturally being closer to
monopoly, the public will be closer to the chopping
board.

Who
in the country with a driving licence will want to take public
transport if you can own your personal transport. Who in the
country will want to eat plain rice and bread daily if you can
afford a sumptuous dinner in a fine restaurant as much as possible.
Who in the country will want to cry about rising medical costs and
settling for a polyclinic when you can afford your own personal
doctor. None of the people want to be left behind the average
income percentile. Apparently, more and more people are still
crying to this millionaire government to be spoon-fed. People are
still voting them in.

IMHO,
I‘d prefer to jettison myself of these problems of living costs.
Scale the corporate ladder and upgrade your income to cushion the
impact of the rising costs. This is for the long term good. Many of
my foreign colleagues and friends or even migrated friends have
warned about the constantly widening income gap. If you do not buck
up now, to wear you off and leave you
behind the average income percentile, a decade will suffice. It is
simply not sensible to pledge allegiance to a government who will
not protect you.

This
government cannot even live to justify the million dollar salary.
In conclusion, do not depend on this government. Depend on
yourselves.
