    • In S'pore, u can see trees are planted as low hedges.Since  trees can grow very tall,so there is a need to prune  tree regularly. It waste manpower and produces rubbish. What they should do is planting low shrubs as low hedges.Although there are not many types of low shrub, they should plant what are available.

I would rather the authority concern grow a tree rather than planting many trees as low hedge. It is better for the protection of the environment.

    • S'pore plant so that it provide more shade and provide s'pore as a clean and green environment. Some political issue there too. S'pore pay those worker, a group of worker go around to do this job. If dont have, their ricebowl smashed.

    • A principle of landscaping is choosing a plant which will grow to the  desirable maximum height.I wonder the officer-in-charge of the authority concerned know this when they do landscaping.

    • I'm currently in the landscaping industry.

You may not be aware of it but there are many types of shrubs that are available in singapore. What to plant depends on the site constraints also.

Thats why i think you should at least describe in more detail what hedges and shrubs are to you.

I have a feeling you got stuff messed up.

Yes it is. But, you need to know what needs to be considered on site first before comenting on height of the plants.

Like that any ah kow ah niao say plant mango tree they plant?

Hedges are usually formed by shrubs. Shrubs and tress are totally different types of plants. Shrubs are not trees and vice versa.

There are also many thinks to consider on site. for eg, blocking noise pollution, unwanted views etc.

And the stuff after pruning need not be rubbish. they can be reused as peat etc.. to facilitate the growth of other young plants.

I'm not with Nparks dont worry. They can be quite anal at times with their policies but i hope you understand what needs to be considered before planting a shrub or tree.

    • Pitot,

I know the difference between tree and shrub.I'm afraid ppl any how plant for ornamental purpose. The pruned leaves and branches can be used as peat. But what about the unnecessary work and energy wasted?

      My friend.....

Have u consider that the trees planted there might be worth the effort in 'Manpower' because of the over all effect of greening the area icon_question.gif

I understand you thinking that money is spent on the effect of maintaning the trees and the 'leftover' of any triming...... but don't forget that 'trees' part are all Bio-degradable..... therefore not like plastic.

Put it this way lah...... planting trees or not won't lower your GST or affect our welfare as S'poreans..... since we don't have any welfare to begin with..... icon_wink.gif

    • Hloc,

What I said is wasting of labour and energy. If there is a low height plant, what is the justification  to plant trees and then later keep cutting them short?

Friend..... What I've been saying is that it ISN'T a waste of energy for the benefit the trees give in return......

But I accept that we each have our own views..... icon_biggrin.gif

Keep cutting tree is a wastage of energy.Do u mean there is no other better way to do planting? If yes, don't plant there and plant in other places.

    • Does the TS mean, "why plant tree & maintain them as low shrubs when you can plant shrubs instead?"

IF that is the case, i think the should just plant shrubs instead lol
