    • Can someone enlighten me on this generous red packet? Why are taxpayers' monies being given away to a country whose emerging economy shows no sign of being abated? Why is this money not being spent on endowment funds for our own needy and to help offset rapid inflation?

Why does kuching kurak Singapore need to contribute to the already rich Dragon's nest?

      Has our govt gone MAD?

    • The Singapore government exists merely as a tool for foreigners. 'Nuff said.

Oh, and to enrich them elites too.

    • true lah but somehow it may coax them into tinking that SG is a helpful company that helps other countries.... which is true when disaster strikes, SG gives usually give small aids to other countries (i said small cos for eg, 500K to help ah tiong in that freaking snowstorm is barely enuff...)

but wat erks me is that gahmen is not helping us... especially those who are really financially poor where an increase in gst or busfares will give them huge probs liaoz... i am not trying to be selfish whereby we should help ourself and ignore other countires plight... but i believe that the gahmen should cater help to the locals too like wat billybong mentioned and whether for political reasons, ball carrying or from the heart, help other countries' plight...

    • 500k to help you all complain

Millions to near 1 billion in GST packages to help Sgreans, you all also complain not enough

      Really icon_rolleyes.gif

Lives at stake vs lives being poor... which one is considered in greater need for help at the current moment? Don't you all have any compassion at all?

      Charity begins at home.

The money is given for political reasons - to improve the level of foreign relations between Singapore and China , so really if Singapore gave 500k , it's just for the guanxi, an investment that helps with trade and what's not.

it's a dark day when you bitch about charity.

People do not understand the context of why the money should be given outside of homeland, especially if they are suffering from financial difficulties too . It is better to let them know why it has to be given than passing your judgement from an ivory tower.

    • It's not that China is in need of a measly 500k. Her foreign reserves already well over a trillion. To give China 500K, I would look at it as an insult.

Stop thinking that giving tribute can buy peace or guanxi between govt. Those days were over.

teeth.png relax lar brother.... we are not in a position to help(donate to other people) yet ...... help ourselves first ba ..... unless you think that making a living in Singapore easy.

I think fymk has brought this up and i think its a valid point.

While i feel that having a better relationship with China is a plus..... i feel that the government should first have a better relationship with its people .... or do they think that the Singapore people are having the best of times teeth.pngteeth.pngteeth.png

It's politics honey. Give them too much , they might feel that you are looking down on them. Give them a courtesy tribute is akin to  xiao xiao yi shi .

    • Do you see overseas germans, french and italian americans donate money to their grandparents birth countries in europe??I mean prompted by their governments cause america comes first to them…it’s one thing to donate money on a personal basis….maybe we’re better than the migrant european descent?

Who say they are all respectful? Aiyo.. on the surface only. PRC and CC all the same.. They think we are "kai zi" and can "lao you shui" from us. Like fymk said, we only "yi si yi si" to show we Singapore lang got "hearts".
