      Taiwan’s president-elect visits Singapore’s CPIB

SINGAPORE: Taiwan’s president-elect Ma Ying-jeou, who will assume office on 20 May, said he will strive to make his government corruption-free.

In an interview with the Singapore media on Tuesday, Mr Ma spoke about his visit to the city-state’s Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB), and his impressions of Singapore.

Mr Ma’s clean image and his anti-corruption message helped Kuomintang party win a landslide victory in last month’s presidential election.

“You can’t have corruption because we have rather comprehensive laws that will prevent you from doing that,” said the president-elect.

“We have learnt this experience in part from Singapore. I visited the CPIB. I was very much impressed by the slogan. Singapore is one of the few countries in the world where corruption is under control,” he added.

During the interview, Mr Ma also spoke about wanting to foster closer ties with mainland China. – CNA/ac

    • What do you mean ?

      He doesn't want anything.

It is an article written by Singapore news agency.

Very normal, quoting someone who praise Singapore. Saying good things about Singapore.

Common practice of the media here.

All despots want to copy the sg system... using dishonorable means to stay in power instead of doing the hard but honorable way that does not allow them to try to take from the people as much as possible and put as much as possible into their own pockets, their son's and daughter in laws pockets.

Ya, the crowd will be throwing eggs and tomaaytoos.. and some bricks at him..maybe.

Then perhaps.. some auntie will be rushing at him.. attempting to rip his hair off.

Don't mess with the Taiwanese locals.

Even in the land of burgers.. Taiwanese transplants are not a force to reckon with.

    • He is trying to buy a " made in Singapore " sheep clothing to disguise as meh meh. Anyway, if he is serious in anti-corruption in taiwan, judging from the damage done by the previous president, it is going to be very difficult to sweep off corruption in taiwan.

It take 10 years to build a country but just one day to destroy it.

    • CPIB has done a good job so far, I support them.

But they are under the control of Prime Minister's office.

So if PM is corrupt, how?

      http://app.cpib.gov.sg/

Is this the normal way things are organised in other countries?

    • Ma just came for visit for reference.   Ma will not be stupid to follow the style of PAP blindly.    For KMT to lose to DPP for 8 years, it is a lesson to be learnt by them so they will not take any risk to follow lky, lhl, pap's way of running the country.    KMT and the people of Taiwan believe in democracy.   They have proven they believe and suppport democracy through the recent election.

you can call that politics or you can also say this is "mind you own business". Everybody here in the past had said that Taiwan is chaotic, hen luan, but then life goes on even when millions go on the streets to protest, whereas in singapore if you have 5 persons wearing the same t shirt walking together, the authorities here would be afraid of "social nuisance".

There is sign of MATURITY for democracy among the majority of the people and the politicians. There is a lot we need to learn from them. Don't be too quick to be flattered.
