NKF, HOTA, AMD, ANNUITY AT 80 MEANS-TESTING MEDICAL CARE, LOW-COST HOUSING PAID FOR 30 YEARS AT 60% OF HOUSEHOLD INCOMES, THIRD-WORLD LIVING IN A FIRST-WORLD COUNTRY, COE, ERP, 3/4 TANK RULE, SPEAKER CORNER, ENTERTAINMENT LICENCE, ANNUAL CERTIFICATES FOR WORKS OF THREAT OF CHALLENGE OF AUTHORITY TO GOVERNMENT, LANDLADY PART-TIME IMMIGRATION OFFICER, and many schemes are world-class institutions you name them we have them all making the news.
Why do we have so many permits, licences and all these world-class institutions.
Well in any normal societies when citizens have paid the taxes government provide services without further questions.
Down here in this little red dot, government collects the taxes and hold back spending and gets to keep the taxes and levies fees and make profits from lands and assets owned by people so as to avoid welfare said to be a slippery slope from which there is no return.
So we have NKF because people cannot pay for their medical care and HOTA because people cannot for for transplant organs and AMD because people cannot stay in intensive wards unless they volunteer suicide death sanctioned by the money-cringing government which only collect taxes and not interested in paying for services like medical care or medical ward.
These are symptoms of citizens who are left to fend for themselves because they have a government which no longer wants to have anything to look after complicated by saving grace schemes to prevent mass suicides like jumping into the MRT. Back to top

Society can take care of the poor through different means i.e. government or/and charity. Even Australia was like that until there was a widespread recession and charities could no longer hold the burden. Thereafter, they went down the welfare route and has been unable to get out of it.
If charities in Singapore can hold out then why shift unnessary burden to government who can spend the money elsewhere (As again, I'm not about to go into the ministerial salary debate).
