So what if we work hard and become rich? All will die one day, and the more materials you have, the more difficult it is (or more fearful one becomes) when the day of reckoning draws near.
However, while acknowledging his point, I stand in my belief that we still have to continue with our dreams, because we have only one lifetime, and we must make full use of it to experience life. Buddhism, to the extreme, can be seen as ultra-passive (sitting there and wasting one's life away), but of course, it's how one interpretes the religion.
Anyway, we going quite far from our discussion :D
Hahaha...indeed. But fortunately it is of better substance...and though a bit off, still enjoyable. You read me there, I was gonna come back with some of my interpretations of Budhism, a subject that I took the effort to understand more than a layman.
Yeah...I think what that piece of news from Najib means Singapore has more appeal, to me at least. Not just because of our better development over the years (and now proven) compared to Malaysia, the bigger picture is that the neighbour now provides more business options, and due its close proximity from S'pore, make our country a better base for regional business.

Well if you really analyze the film more, Neo was a representation of the Buddha, he is the only one who can see through the Matrix completely (illusions), therefore he has the ability to help others to break out of it. And when he sacrificed himself at the end, humanity thereafter had the option to either choose to continue to live in the illusions, or face the truth and live the truth (which is a life of hardship vs the suits and ties and affluent lifestyle that can be experienced in the Matrix). Actually it sounds a bit like Christianity as well, but let's not go into too much of this :p
Anyway, many people view the Matrix as a complicated film, some say it sucks. I said its one of the best trilogies of all time. It sets you thinking, and going beyond what is presented before the screen.
Either way, for Malaysia, like it or not, the hard truth is that the ruling party is trying to score some quick points but ignoring the long-term effects. I guess the problem of competitiveness will be resolved by the next PM or 2, NOT this one. This one is just trying hard to help his party regain the trust of the voters
When Alan Greenspan brought interest rates down in the previous crisis in 2001, some say the current crisis is his fault, because interest rates were not raised fast enough after that, and too much cheap credit was freely available to the market, thus fuelling speculation, and resulting in today's mess. Whether it's something you believe or not, is up to the individual.
There is some truth to it, in my opinion, but I guess firefighting in 2001 was more impt at that time, than long term consequences.
In Australia the strong government presence and the wide respect for the rule of law meant that mob action against the Chinese was usually contained or nipped in the bud. By contrast, mob action and murder were quite common in California.
In certain areas, there were considerable numbers of Chinese. This was largely due to the attraction of gold. In North Queensland during the time of the gold rushes there were large Chinese communities. In 1886, the Chinese were:
Explanations of Racism Against Chinese
1.Competition on the goldfields.
2.Competition in the labour market.
3.Anglo-Saxon belief in racial superiority and purity. These ideas were influenced by Social Darwinism. The idea of building a 'racially pure' nation was quite common at the time.

East Indians are under the Indo-Aryan(Caucasian) race , hence they are easier to assimilate within the same race.
On the other hand, East Asians are Mongoloids, which is a totally different race.
Dear All,
After more than 14000 readers and 450 posts, where have we come to? That was a question I wanted to have answered. I now have the answer...
Obviously, there are a few individuals with reasons good enough for them to stay away for some time, me included (for business reasons), I DARE to conclude that other than a few exceptions, we will STILL make Singapore our home, whether or not we admit it, now or in the future.
I am convinced that as far as this thread is concerned, the numbers don't lie. For those who think you "hate" your country or it is not a good place to live in, please think again.
Thanks.
i dont dare conclude bout spore....my neighbour upstairs in spore turn his place into a metal working workshop every day.
neighnour next door everytime fight n want to beat up his entire family at night......so i think either north pole or south pole is better option.only faxctory i setup tere is smaller
i have yet to see someone put up a picture of their dream home in spore after thousands of posts n viewers!its like whether u want tro stay under a bridge or on a bridge kinda choice.

Research by Mercer Consulting
Singapore is ranked 26th in the world, and NO OTHER asian cities are ranked higher. However, having lived in Toronto & Ottawa, ranked 15 & 16 respectively, I am not convinced these two cities are better than Singapore. But again, we are all different.
For your information only.
The trick is to know the hidden rules behind these sort of ratings.
I would think the top hidden rule would be how much must you earn to be able to enjoy most of the benefits of being in this top rating city.
Also, how difficult would it be to maintain that sort of salary.
If you're say between 30-50(healthy of course), earning say above 6k(conservative, i know) not too greedy about debts i'm pretty sure you would find Singapore a great place to be in.
On the other hand, if you're 50+ earning around 1.5k or 70+ earning around 700-1k, bogged down with increasing medical expenses and reduced stamina due to aging - not too wonderful a place.
If you're starting off with 2k and realising the horrendous amount of debt for the future if you want to start a family...well....
Notice all the top 30 are in ang moh countries, reason this is an ang moh's report. Singaporeans have a higher level of spoken English hence the position.
No surprises.![]()

I can agree that the report is biased (as are most of them) depending on the criterias set forth. Though I dun think "Ang Mo" speaking was the deciding factor for Singapore being up there.
I am surprised Tokyo, Taipei & Hong Kong did not make it.
Just hit 15000 readers! Still dun see, from the floor, which city is a run-away better location to live in compared to Singapore...
South Korea or Japan !!!
or Yeun Bian in China .

That's the number of views, not readers.

All I see is a list of countries, not the criteria by which they were ranked, nor the size or the characteristics of the sample. Without know what was actually measured, there is no basis upon which to conclude that the report is biased.
Be a Brunei citizen is the best.
Go and read up on the enormous benefits of being a Brunei citizen.
A better table for ranking the quality of life among countries. Although Spore is still a pretty decent place to live, I am glad I have emigrate to a country where I have more control on my life.

Not interested to talk to you because you have no depth.
I suggest you stay away from me, lest you want things to get ugly for you.
I am only interested in discussing topics with people who think. For your case, until you start showing some sense in your postings (lots of one liners), its a waste of time talking to you.
