LHL has a lousy reputation due to rumours concerning his younger
days in sg, seems like a lot of people have something bad to say
about his behaviour during that time

Referendum required for new PM replied by nismoS132 @ Tue, 16 Mar 2004 21:55:21 +0800

i don't know if anyone remembers this, about a month back (or
more) GCT mentioned that the next PM that comes in, has to be voted
in by all the MPs in the house. not just chosen by those in the
office.

now we can assume that everyone will just kindly obey and vote
LHL.

or we can give them the benefit of the doubt that they have some
common sense.

of course, i'm not talking about 2007, which is already moot, but
rather 2011 or 2015 when LHL finishes his term.

with the presumption that there will be others willing to contest
him that is, where i believe, after the passing of his father,
there will be.

then again, the hardy old one may just be immortal for all we know.
direct quote from a friend guarding the sacred one. "have you ever
seen someone jogging after having suffered a stroke not 2 weeks
ago?"

If it goes against eveything they have stood for, I for one
shall not shed a tear in sadness, merely in jubilation. For thats
when Singapore has taken its first steps towards a politcally
mature state.

2. He/she must have the full backing of the cabinet and must have
had a distinguished if not spotless career history serving our
nation.

I will be very sorry to see Goh Chok Tong step down. He is truly a
gentleman and brought with his cabinet, his own management style,
level-headedness and a flair in his usual quiet and unassuming
nature.

He gave us something our SM could not have. Pity that despite his
best efforts, he will forever live in the shadow of the SM.

As for those who consider Teo Chee Hean, fear not....the rather
aloof man has been slated as a future PM of singapore...though i
personally dun think much of him.

And there's no denying LHL as the next PM. It has already been
written.

If theres a petition for this, where do I sign?

The method of succession in Singapore is a joke, and the latest
wayang kulit move of letting our parliament "vote" for the the
"new" PM is the latest in a series of insults to Singaporean's
intelligence, from the Ruling Party.

It is surprising that there has never been any thought as to how
any PRIME MINISTER for Singapore is to be selected after LKY is
gone.

This issue was raised in several of my previous posts, that the
present ONE-PARTY Dominated Rule is entirely dependent on the Inner
Circle of the Party Elite in selecting one of their own.

There is no institutionalised procedure that will safely determine
how the Prime Minister of Singapore is to be selected.

Can the same tried process be depended on when LKY is no longer
with ordinary Singaporean mortals ?

When the time comes, as in Taiwan, South Korea, and even in
Mainland China, the historic generation will pass leaving behind a
chaotic succession process.
Referendum required for new PM replied by relevation @ Mon, 15 Mar 2004 20:59:18 +0800

Disclaimer: This is my opinion to share with fellow folks for
purpose of discussion and without intent to defame or belittle
anyone named or inferred.

Dear all,

I like to propose a referendum to choose the next prime
minister.

1) Since LHL is incompetent to handle the SIA fallout, he should
not be our PM. I am not sure if SM is still around to handle the
time round. Due to the crisis and having no choice but the PAP
government, we need a good and strong PM. Therefore I propose a
referendum to choose our next PM.

People like George Yeo and Teo Chee Hian are better than LHL in
terms of being cool and more competent. Even Mr Goh should consider
to continue being the PM for the next 5 years. He is still so
young!

Singaporeans should stand up and prevent the creation of an
ineffective dynasty. A referendum is a necessity.

From my previous post, I have relented that change must come from
the PAP itself given the "bo-chap" and politically ignorant nature
of Singaporeans in general.

This proposal should come from the PAP itself, just as the change
in Communist China came from Deng Xiao Ping himself. Who is the Mr
Deng in today's PAP.

Come on, someone in PAP should be strong and courageous in
preventing a dynasty from happening. Are you saying that you are
worst off than what "the family" can offer? If that is the case you
have to ask why are you in parliament and for who?

Remember PAP members and MP, you have a duty and that duty is only
to the people of Singapore and no one else!

Besides, I would strongly encourage LHL to accept this challenge.
If he wins, he will surely have the mandate.

And if he loses, he should know that he is not up to it.

For those who support this calling- please let this be read more
than 10, 000 times to ensure that it happens. PAP MPs please take
note!
