my friends without going into any insults or namecalling,
list the top 15 armed forces from asia where asia includes
it includes far east, asean, saarc, west asia, central asia.
mine is roughly
1. russia
2. china
3. india
4. pakistan
5. turkey
6. iran
7. israel
8. japan
9. north korea
10. south korea
11. taiwan
12. indonesia
13. malaysia

without further insult...malaysia should be drop from the list and be replaced by vietnam.
vietnam's 440,000 troops and thoudsands of tanks is far superior to malaysia's 100,000 and less then a hundred tanks.
as for singapore... dont worry lah... we singaporeans knows we are well ahead of malaysia...
there is no need for me to brag infront of my own people.

excuse me... but what is "saarc"??
I don't think we can consider Turkey and Iseral as "Asia". I think maybe Iran can be sneaked in...
If we consider Iran as a "Asian" country. You must include the ex-USSR republics with all the -stans....
And we have to put S. Korea on top of N. Korea
and thailand must be above Indonesia and Malaysia.

Seriously this list is both stupid and will bring about dicksize comparisons. The list is useless as absolute numbers and lack of specific senarios (top 15 armed forces that eat snake) totally throws such a "neutral" topic out of the window.
Anyone who put singapore at the 15th of the list is obviously here to stir up trouble.

[/b]i have to agree on this part. each force is mighty in its own way. the doctrines are different also.

Agree with CM06 about TS's intention. His comment on the last part is obviously inflammatory, designed to start those meaningless X country VS Y country comparison , which we all know would degenerate into a flame fest and name callings in no time.

A quick check confirms CM06's suspicion.Obviously, TS is trying to start a flame war(again)

What you should put Singapore and Malaysia before Indonesia.
Our(Indonesian) armed forces are so very ill equipped that the only war they can win is either against pirates or its very own citizens.
Today's high-tech military equipments do much wonder and are far more effective than just plain numbers.
The days of numbers are way over.
what's up with the 5 minutes waiting after editing? lame

Ok, I not sure.
But 50-50 Israel is Asia. Geographical position yes.
But if you're gonna bring in politics then I'm not sure if they consider themselves Asians.
Can someone enlighten me?

Well, there's politically Asian and geographically Asian.
If we're looking at a geographical pov, here's my top ten.
1. Israel
2. Australia
3. Turkey
4. Japan
5. South Korea
6. China
7. India
8. North Korea
9. Singapore
10. Thailand
But it's all a useless pissing contest eventually. There are many different factors to look at.Edited by LazerLordz 19 Dec `07, 11:27PM

But then again what good is technology without the numbers?

What good are numbers without technology? It is a fine balance and technology has already seen to it that numbers (in terms of personnel) count for very little. That's what technology advances are for. Or are you one of those that believe a thousand bullets can defeat an MBT?

Weapon stocks isn't everything. A coutry can have a million crossbows and it still would get its ass kicked by a country with a strategic bomber.
Defining the quality of a country's armed forces is an exercise in futility at best as first of all, you will never get or be allowed to reveal the full capabilities and secondly because of that you'll just get into a pissing contest and everybody is going to have his or her own opinion about things
But I'm just curious by what logic or yardstick did you rank your list?

The more appropriate question is: What good is technology without excellent training?
Don't you read what happened in Israel's 67 and Yom Kippur War? Also as far as I know in the first gulf war Iraqis had more tanks on the field than the Allied. Like more than twice over. Air strikes only prioritized on strategic targets before switching to tactical ones like Iraqis tanks because they ran out of strategic targets. Still the number of operational Iraqis tanks were still believed to be greater than the combined allied tanks.

We all know that Israel geographically is indeed part of Asia.
Russia's territory spans from eastern Europe in western borders to Asia in her eastern border.
Don't you know the disputed Sakhalin island between Japan and Russia today or even the Naval battle between then imperial Japanese Navy and Russian Empire back before WWI starts, that is at the beginning of last century(19th). Then the Russian empire's Asiatic fleet was tactically defeated in the beginning of the war and the Russian's European fleet made a voyage round the world to her Asia territory to fight off the Japanese. The Japanese naval fleet defeated them. The first occurrence that an Asian Nation able to defeat what was considered a major European power.
So actually we can consider Russia to be geographically located partially in Asia.
PS: How do you make multi quote here anyway?
