    • Few years ago RSAF sent F5 or A4 to intercept Cessna with a
      blind pilot on board.

      Why this time sent F16?

At least these planes are well-utlised from training to routine operations.

F16C, rather than D, likely to be used since it is replacement for A4SU, which itself was used in the last intercept as confirmed by Mindef.

I suspect this is just one of the "few" intercepts that is made public.

    • Am curious…was ADA tracking and do they already have a firing solution on the intruding aircraft?

      There was radar tracking it.

People don't usually shoot "Bogeys" on sight, especially during Peace Time. The planes were sent up to identify it. If there was any shooting to be done, I think the planes would be in a better position to shoot first.

    • I thought Changi Airbase (East) Airplanes were F16 Blk 52+? Its primary role is ground attack and not primarily a fighter is it not?

Why not use another airbase which has dedicated fighters rather than gound attack/multi role aircraft?

I am not exactly familiar with aircraft, so correct me if I'm wrong.

This question a bit hard to answer on a public forum I think. IMO, the people who know won't say.

My guess, different squadrons are rotated to be on alert daily. From a logistics point of view, I wear out all the engines at an equal rate when they sit on Alert status.

    • I wonder what is the official reason for the intrusion... i think it must be quite serious or suspicious... or maybe just because the Cessna pilot forget to file a flight plan and didn't listen out on the radio....

Actually the article didn't say where the plane was from.... Why did you say it was from CAB East? The article only said the intruder was force to land in Changi Airport....

the F16D Blk 52+ should be fully capable of interception as well.......

I guess because they officially closed the commercial air space so that they have to issue a statement.

it would be interesting to know the decision that lead to closing the air space. what make it different from the past if any at all from previous incident?

    • Today's papers confirmed that there are 2x F16Ds being scrambled... so most probably 145 SQN from CAB.

I think those two pilots are completely inconsiderate.... I wonder whether they delibrately did not file a flight plan or they delibrately 'forget' and/or try to create problems or play a prank....

if they do it delibrately, i think they should be severly punished. maybe jailed or something...

You were correct in guessing plane used in the intercept.

So officially, eventhough 145 was designated as a strike role, those blk52s can do scramble jobs as well.

So guys, if u happened to be happily cycling along the Changi Coast road this weekend, do remember there is a team of pilots and jets ready for mission nearby 24/7.

Maybe someone had a sudden impulse to fly in for a Bak Kut Teh dinner. Decision made halfway in the sky Laughing

    • Imagine some people want to play punk with us. Every day send a few idiots to fly in without a flight plan. We close our airspace until tulans...
