They have to use a big robot and a powerful laser gun so as not to have such a big defeat.

    • It's actually pretty light for a main battle tank. I'm assuming that it doesn't have chobham armour?

    • Is it me or does this new tank looks like a Leo 2A6 plus Leclerc? In fact the earlier tank, Type 90 looks like alot like Leo 2A4.

    • aiya, if SAF can buy a few battlion of these, SAF would be so much more powerful.

This tank may prove to be more suitable for SAF than the Leo2A4.

I believe they are banned from exporting any sort of military technology by their laws ...

that's why nobody's using the military equivalents of hondas and toyotas in tanks and warplanes ... icon_lol.gif

    • Tancold: This aint no datsun. This is more like a Lexus. If you compare 2008 Lexus vs 1998 BMW, which would you get?

I am sure that this tank is going to incoporate the latest technology, ie. advanced 3rd gen Thermal imaging gun sight, battlefield management systems, independent commander gun sight (hunter-killer), etc.

At 44 ton, they present the right level of "heaviness" for SAF. 55 ton Leo2A4 may be better protect, but I think this baby perhaps can travel through the Malayian plantation with far greater ease.

      Happy to debate.

    • Your so called latest technology is standard package by now...

i seriously doubt MBTs can manoeuver well in rubber plantations...

$8.5m per Japan tank is costly and not really proven...

L2 is cheap and current platform is upgradable and still cost less than $8m.

      German tank u know ? biggrin.png

Nothing to debate, stating the facts...

haha mbt in rubber plantation...i think they'll jus push down the trees lol.

ok la, not tt many countries using BMS yet, still latest techbiggrin.png

    • not total upgrade, maybe better protection against ATGM or laser....converting into A6 is a waste of money...currently nothing in the region could match the A4

Upgrades will be done like all SAF systems. This has already been said repeatedly. They are base-line tanks.  Imagine a parade of A26s..hmm..nice hor. There are other systems but cant say.

Did i say upgrade now? Koo Koo Koo Koo. Though I would like them to upgrade these tanks as soon as they can. Also, better protection for your soldiers is never a waste of money.

Take a look at the bionix and AMX-13 tanks. See how much upgrades they have got. In the case of the bionix, they produced a better one.

    • i think skye2 is right ba...will definitely upgrade. there shld be some flaws with the leopard 2 that spore got, mayb hydraulics or smth, which the saf is not satisfied with and wld like to improve to suit spore's context. mayb upgrade till better than A6? or mayb even put anti-air missle type variant. no saying what STK can do. but not in the near future definitely. i think SAF will want to test the tank to be sure what they need to do to improve and find out what exactly is lacking...

    • well maybe the hydraulic does have problems, as i said its ok to upgrade for more protection...maybe installing an active protection against ATGM....but a full upgrade is a waste of money, if we taking Hellenic army for our examples...well they actuall have a real enemy and practically have a very real tense relation with its neighbour....but us ...the closest confrontation we have with ourneighbour is when their politian rantting and yapping with us....which is nothing...

Waste of money for your country with little to spend. Saving lives is`nt a waste of money.

Singapore has done an entire array of upgrades to previous armored vehicles. Janes has already reported that the Tempests have been up-armored with new passive and reactive armour. It has also been upgunned with a new 105mm gun. This would most likely be the case with the Leopard 2 as well; especially with more advanced threats in the near future such more penetrative projectiles and better armour. They may also do it now or soon. We`ll see...

The tank has already been revealed. They rant because that is all about they can do. Like small children. Ironically, they look ridiculous internationally and it affects investments and reduces thier presitge. It will never deter Singapore from buying what we deem necessary. It never has. This is a moot point. Our relations with our neighbours have been tensed in the past as well. Fail to prepare. Prepare to fail.

Haha. I do enjoy everytime you jump in and try and dissuade Singapore from buying or upgrading something. Hurts doesnt it? Trouble is you look more and more like a clown each time. Do you really think anyone who matter will take you seriously? They will when pigs fly.
