Lol, in the 1st place, all Armed forces in the world, have a minimal number of assets on stand by.

That means that MLRS, fighter jet, soldier, ship can move in the shortest timing possible. Everything would have already been prepaped b4 hand.

Not "got enemy plane, quick go intercept .... ok, wait ar ... the missile not loaded up onto my plane"
Not "Hey, MRLS, move ... ok, wait ar ... the truck haven't refill its fuel yet ... "

So, if the MRLS wana strike us ... it is very possible that within seconds or minutes ... that missile is going to hit us ...

MLRS is solid-fueled right? so the time required to prep and launch would be minimal.... however doubt that our stuff would be in place and ready in a MLRS first-strike situation... however, in a second-strike (or further) situation, this arrangement might actually be viable.

When he said DEPTH, he meant DEPTH. The enemy's depth.

He doesnt mean deep.

It's a military term for use when you are "higher up" when you hold a command position.

I.E. not you.

It's a statement of fact.

The enemy's depth is the "rear of the enemy." Where the generals are, where their artillery guns are, where their logistics are.

It just means that we can reach the enemy where he thinks is a "safe" place.

Cutting off the snake's head, removing the tiger's teeth and kicking a giant's leg from under him.

SAF troops on 'shoot and scoot' mission in S. Africa

NORTHERN CAPE (SOUTH AFRICA) - FIVE hundred Singapore soldiers on Saturday successfully demonstrated their ability to 'shoot and scoot' when confronted with fleeting enemy targets.

This is the latest in a series of Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) exercises that validate new war-fighting concepts.

The 'enemy' in this exercise included modern-day multiple-launch rocket systems that can deploy, fire and flee in about 15 minutes.

'The idea is to take them out before they fire. We just have to be faster,' said Colonel Lim Teck Yin, director of the exercise codenamed Lightning Warrior.

Just how fast can they do it? Sorry, that is classified information, says the military.

Speed is the key and by putting the foot down on the technology pedal, SAF troops are looking to shave seconds and minutes in the time it takes to detect and destroy a target.

Ideal training spot

THE army troops and airmen have been roughing it out since May 10 in a training area spanning 50km by 40km - about three times the size of Singapore - making it an ideal spot for long-range live-firing exercises.

Lohatla Combat Training Centre is more than a two-hour drive along pencil-straight roads from Upington, the biggest city in South Africa's Northern Cape province, some 9,000km from Singapore.

Minister:            Well, first of all we would like to thank the South African National Defence Force and South Africa for allowing us to train here. This exercise confirms the SAF’s capability to have comprehensive awareness and precision strike on multiple targets. This includes targets which are static as well as fleeting targets, which means targets that appear only for a short while. This is done by integrating a network of sensors and shooters. Sensors include things like the Weapon Locating Radar, our Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and even our Apache helicopters. Shooters include things like fighters, our Apache helicopters as well as our artillery and precision strike weapons like SPIKE. What this means is that the SAF division now has the capability to see first and to strike first well into the division’s depths and that means that the division is able to influence the battle well into the depth. This is a capability which we are happy to have and is part of the third generation transformation.

Tan Yingjia (Lianhe Zaobao):       Sir, how is this relevant to the current operational environment within the greater region?

Minister:            It is a much more dynamic operational environment. It is much more important for a division to be able to influence the depth (deep) battle. It also means that targets which are both static and fleeting can be seen and engaged quickly.

Tan Yingjia (Lianhe Zaobao):       There is also an increasing threat in unconventional threats such as terrorism. How could such technology be extended to deal with these threats?

Minister:            We have a whole range of capabilities. This capability is one end of it but we have other capabilities which deal with things like protection of installations, the special forces, as well as capabilities to deal with chemical and biological threats. So, different parts of the SAF are tuned for different capabilities. This part of the SAF is tuned for the capability to deal with a depth (deep) battle as well as to deal with both static and fleeting targets, which may appear only for a short period of time.

Teh Joo Lin (The Straits Times): Sir, third generation has been going on for quite a number of years. How does this exercise fit into the overall scheme of things? How far are we ahead?

Minister:            Well, it is important now because the battle moves much more quickly. And because of longer-range weapons, the ability to influence the battle in the depth and to have very tight sensor-shooter loops is very important so that both the static targets and fleeting targets can be engaged very quickly. This exercise confirms our ability to do that by having a very tight loop between the sensors when you detect the target and being able to bring precise weapons onto the target.

Has SG HIMARS been in operation?

The DSC determines the desired effects, the timing and location of the strike as well as the type of strike assets most suited for destroying the targets. 第三代新加坡武装部队进一步提升网络作战能力，可在空中和地面部署周密的目标探测网络，通过纵观全局的指挥系统，寻找、跟踪敌军目标。由于能迅速调遣部队攻击目标，让陆军能在瞬间歼灭“打了就跑”和不断转移的敌军炮兵和坦克。

约500名士兵参与本月10日到27日在南非罗哈特拉（Lohatla）战斗训练中心进行，代号为“闪电战士”（Ex. Lightning Warrior）的演习。武装部队通过这次陆空联演，显示它有能力同时摧毁多个瞬间移动目标（fleeting target），包括高度机动的多管火箭炮。

陆军三个综合师去年建立师属攻击指挥处（Division Strike Centre），可调动无人驾驶飞机、武器侦测雷达、阿帕奇攻击型直升机、突击队和以骏马型双节运输车（Bronco）代步的前线攻击指挥队（Strike Observers Mission，简称STORM），搜集即时情报。先进的资讯系统汇集了各方情报，让指挥官掌握空中和陆地的作战情况。

只需几分钟，师属攻击指挥处就能根据信息派遣F-16战斗机、阿帕奇攻击型直升机、“冠军”（Primus）155毫米榴弹炮车或高机动多管火箭炮车（HIMARS），对目标展开准确、迅速、密集和高度配合的袭击。

张志贤：武装部队具备综合攻击实力

国防部长张志贤前天到罗哈特拉战斗训练中心视察“闪电战士”演习，了解空军和陆军作战单位如何运用师属攻击指挥处提供的信息平台，配合无间地摧毁瞬间移动的目标。陪同张志贤巡视“闪电战士”演习的，还有政府国会外交与国防委员会副主席柏默和陆军总长梁建鸿少将。

在前天举行的实弹演习中，阿帕奇攻击型直升机和榴弹炮车先后对5辆装甲车发动攻势。在师属攻击指挥中心和前线指挥队穿针引线下，这5辆散布1公里范围宽广平原的装甲车，在几分钟内化成灰烬。

张志贤在实弹演习后接受媒体访问时说：“这次演习证实武装部队具备综合攻击实力，有能力同时摧毁多个静止和瞬间移动目标。”他说，现代作战环境变幻莫测，能以协调方式调遣空中和陆面部队展开袭击，将能协助作战部队在战场上取得控制权。

缩短反应时间并迅速反击

罗哈特拉训练场位于南非最大城市约翰内斯堡以西520多公里，约60公里长、40公里宽，大部分是宽广平原，植物相当少，这让军队有足够的空间尝试各种创新的炮兵战术。

在一般作战情况下，高度机动炮兵部队采用“打了就跑”战术，从攻击、撤退到重新部署可在15至30分钟完成。师属攻击指挥中心可全面探测、持续追踪、灵活调动空中和陆地作战单位，大大缩短反应时间，使武装部队有能力对瞬间移动目标展开先发制人攻击，或在遭炮击时迅速反击。

第六综合师师长林德仁上校受访时说，在资讯科技协助下，师属攻击指挥中心可进行更精准的攻击，不仅能更有效地消灭敌军，也可减少平民伤亡。前年的以黎战争中，黎巴嫩真主党武装组织采取“打了就跑”战略，从幼稚园、学校和民宅等场所向以色列境内发射火箭炮，然后迅速撤离。

张志贤参观军演前，先在本月16日会见南非国防部长勒库达、总统府部长帕哈德、情报机构部长卡斯里尔和南非国会副议长莫兰德。他也会见在南非的新加坡人社群。他结束了对南非的4天访问，今天回国。

前线指挥队　情报完整效率高

过去，负责协调炮火袭击和空袭的侦察兵是通过无线电与总部联系，并根据指挥官口头提供支离破碎的情报搜索目标。呼叫炮火的程序冗长，还要以肉眼观察炮弹是否击中目标。

在“闪电战士”演习中首次曝光的前线攻击指挥队（Strike Observers Mission，简称STORM），采用先进的指挥、控制、通讯、电脑和情报系统，摆脱过去的“黑箱操作”，使不同的作战单位同时分享战场情报，以更迅速、有效地摧毁敌方不断移动的多管火箭炮车、炮兵阵地、空防和装甲部队。

为实现第三代武装部队网络化作战概念，陆军三个师去年成立师属攻击指挥中心，并建立高度机动、数量保密的前线指挥队。

前线攻击指挥队有六成员

由六名士兵组成的前线攻击指挥队备有骏马型双节运输车，无须深入敌腹，就可根据无人驾驶飞机、攻击型直升机、突击队在战场搜集的即时情报，掌握战场情况，并调遣炮兵或阿帕奇直升机，摧毁特定敌军目标。

前线攻击指挥队由两名尉级军官司令，队员包括炮兵士官、探测器士官、信号兵和驾驶员。

林凯锦中尉（23岁）是第三师师属炮兵团其中一个前线攻击指挥队的副司令。他受访时说，前线攻击指挥队的协调技术日益纯熟，大大提升了侦察队协调攻击的能力。“以前，前进侦察小组通过无线电，只能凭从总部得到零碎信息寻找敌军目标。今天，我们能在骏马运输车内看到无人驾驶飞机传来的现场画面，还有总部的战场概况图，能更全面和即时地掌握战场情况，做出更准确判断。”
