Gotten it from the net ...thus sharing with all ..

      Improve your health-Learn Zi-Fa-Gong 自發功

I practice Qigong 氣功 (or Chi Kung) in Taichung. I would like to share my experience and my comprehension of a particular form of Qigong called Zi-Fa-Gong 自發功. While Qigong follows specific movements (respiration techniques for example), Zi-Fa-Gong or “spontaneous” Qigong is formless.

“Formless” here means that each individual creates his own style and his own movements depending on his personal needs and problems. However, there are some movements that practitioners can learn to enter a Qigong state. Here are a few advices for beginners:

The most important thing is to relax deeply in order to let the Qi (or “energy”) generate movements. You need to be patient because it can take a while before you are relaxed enough to enter the Qigong state.

In practice, it is very simple: when you feel like moving, just move and don’t try to control anything. Your mind must be free; think about nothing and just let the Qi guide you. Most people, when beginning to practice, move backwards. Just be careful not to fall (that is why it is much better to be in a big park, so you can run or walk as much and as long as the Qi makes you move).

Don’t try to stop suddenly when you experience gyrating movements. That might make you dizzy. The Qi is like a river; don’t try to block the water from flowing. The more you practice, the more you can improve your health. Don’t be afraid if you have muscle tremors while practicing. Some people run, clap their hands or stamp their feet, sing, cry or feel like flying during the exercise. To avoid that these irregular movements with large motions disturb others, it is advised to be watched by a friend or another practitioner when you begin to move.

      The results

I personally think that practicing Qigong reduces considerably the risks of becoming ill. My health improved a lot in a few months.

Even if you are in a good health, it is nice to know that you can help people who have physical or psychological problems. Practitioners who have a high level practice External Healing Qigong: they can sense when others have Qi disturbances and they can correct the imbalance.

Finally, don’t forget that it is meaningless to practice Qigong if you don’t improve your quality of life at the same time. There is no point in practicing Qigong if you smoke a cigarette thereafter or eat oily and sweet food everyday.

My stomach is in a much better shape now that I practice Qigong, but it is also because I try to eat as well as I can. It means regularly, slowly and with variety. Don’t skip the vegetables. Eat a lot of fruits and as much fish as you can. Avoid your two enemies: fried and sweet food. For people who still think that smoking, eating fried and sweet food is not a big deal, I would like to remind them that almost 1 million people die in America every year because of diseases caused by cigarettes and junk food.

    •  Some practical information:

It is possible to practice almost anywhere. However, concrete and steel are not man’s best friends. It is highly important to be in intimate contact with Nature, especially for beginners. Personally, I practice in a big park, with lots of space, herb, trees and birds. It is a real pleasure. In Taiwan, it is possible to practice Zi-Fa-Gong in places such as中壢中央大學草坪 and 台中科博館草坪.

台中科博館草坪 Park of the Science Museum

      The time

In Taichung, a lot of people come together to practice in the park of the Science Museum on Saturdays and on Sundays morning. Some practitioners also come during week days.

      The price

It is free. It shouldn’t be a surprise. People who have a better level help beginners to progress. They are warm and nice.

Qi Gong is about breathing techniques. Wrong techniques can worsen your health, not improve it.

Whether or not it's like those martial arts dramas, I have no idea.
