Is it ethical, is it right for a father who used the names of his children and wife to buy insurance, and after an accident has happened, claim the money for his own?

It is not morally correct but isn't a insurance suppoused to pass it on to the next of kin?

Is the beneficary writen as your father? If so, there is nothing legal u can do about it?

He was the one who paid every month, and when I suffered a slipped disc, the payment was 17k, 15% permanent injury. My dad said that since he was the one who was paying my insurance, he should be the one who claimed on it. Yes, legally when I was young, he already make me sign that he would be the benficiery.

well thn if he paid the premiums. and he paid for yr medicals to make sure yr 'cured' he entitled to full amount of the insurance claims. its not tt he wants to make $$ outa yr injuries or mishaps. he has the foresight to make sure tt yr well being is taken care of. imagine if he dint get insurance for u. there mite not b enuf savings to cover yr medical expenses n ud b suffering all the while....

i agree wif tt. almost all parents luv their children.i belived ur father rather u live well & healthy than 2 claim ur insurance money.

in my view,ur case is tt ur father practiced family planning.

If you are still a child:
Ask yourself this, who is paying the medical bills? Who is paying ALL your living expenses?

If you are at working age:
So you didn't bother to pick up the insurance premium bills all along. But now that there's a payment, you want the money? How convenient.

unless he took the money and refuse to use it to treat ur slipped disc, or purposely harm u to get the money... cannot be rite.

Is your Dad gonna take the money and leave you to suffer from your slipped disc without taking you to the doctor anymore?
If not, I think he shd take the money bcoz he is probably gonna use it eventually to pay for your follow up treatment.
So far I haven read anything to suggest that your father gonna take the money and leave you in a lurch.

Dear DaneIngal,

I can't believe what I'm reading. Since your father paid for your insurance premiums every month, then he would be entitled to your insurance claim for your disablement. If he has to pay for your medical bills & your care, he should be, ethically & MORALLY, the recipient of the $ which you are entitled to.

If your father brought you up, cared for you & spent on you, don't you think you OWE him that, at least? How could you be so calculating?

+1. The insurance money will be entitled to you if you paid for it. The insurance money is to treat your slipped disc and etc etc, not 'free-money' for him to spend on booze and gals or what leh.

I think most of you are confused on the concepts of insurance, so allow me to explain... If the policy's insured is a minor, by that we mean under the age of 16, then of course the insured CANNOT BE AN APPLICANT/ POLICY OWNER, but his or her immediate family member. ( For the singles, its their parents, and for the married, its their spouse) Therefore, given that the insured suffers a slip disc and is declared partially disabled, the benefits goes to the APPLICANT. The benefits ALWAYS GOES TO THE APPLICANT, and it doesnt matter if the applicant has been paying for the premiums or not.... However, if the policy insured is above 16yo, then when buying the policy, the parent can choose to be the applicant or allow the child(insured) to be the applicant. Either way, again the benefits goes to the applicant.. The person who pays the premiums is not taking into consideration upon distribution of the benefits.

It doesnt matter.. He doesnt have to make u sign. You have no rights to the policy at all, cos you were a minor in the inception of the policy, and even if you are all grown up right now, he still retain the rights to the policy, unless he transfers them to you. That is his prerogative as a policy owner, not a MUST. Even if you are a 40year old spinster, he can still buy a policy on your life. The only relation you have to the policy, is that you are the insured, and he can buy a policy on your life, cos he has an insurable interest in you. By the way, an insurance bought on your life is a sign of goodwill and love of your Dad, and to question him and accuse him of being a mercenary is not really ideal. Then again, its your family matters and none of us have the right to interfere.

It's often hard to make claims from the insurance co.

Your dad is probably making the move to make all claims now for all foreseeable medical expenses than to repeatedly make new claims which the insurance could reject and if they do, your expenses become your dad's.

i'd trust my dad more than the insurance co, grl.
