How long to get over a breakup?

I've been very curious about guys recovering from a breakup. I always see my guy friends being dumped. Sure they were sad... Well at least that's what they told me. But when they get back to work, they seem so ok, like nothing has effected them.
How long really does a guy take to get over a relationship breakup? Let's say... if it's a few years relationship (ie. 5 years). -

i seen almost immediately one.........quarrelled in dragonfly, gf walked out, the guy was frenching another zabor within the next hr.......
the next time we went out together, they together liao
this kind ppl may say is done in spite or wat lah......but then, who has the right to say?
got some ppl take as long as the rship lasts.......if 3yrs rship then he takes 3yrs to rebound......regain confidence to find another one.......
some oni take a couple of months.......
some neber got over.......but still moved on and concentrated on other things in life......... -

But really... if really they put on a mask, then they must be damn steady in pretending siah. Cuz so far, I see them very steady one. Their work can still do properly. Talk normally when discussing work. Still eat with colleagues during lunch. Still produce good work at work place. etc etc. -
its already over. why let something in the past take over ur life?

and as for those who are with another girl immediately after...there is a possibility that he is doing this to 'take revenge on the girl who has hurt his feelings'
eh...chances are hor...u can get good sex during that time ok...
but of course...doesnt apply to all -
Guys keep work and personal life seperately
I personally don't let my feelings affect my work , although i may be crying inside

Depending on da guys' behaviour... 5 yrs to a rather realistic person could range from days to months or even years and there will definately be memories of that relationship in him. If its those sensitive guys... its even harder to let go (possibly never recover) unless they find a better meaning to life than sulking over a lost relationship with his ex girlfriend.

personally, it seemed like forever...
heck! i almost walked into a bus speeding because i was in a daze..
i think it would take.. until you decide to let it go, and stop moping around... and give it a few months after that decision..
but that decision, may sometimes never happen for some...
and hey.. you never get over it.. you will feel the hurt, you will feel the sense of loss.. probably forever because you will remember it..
but these are the things that shape you, the things in life that will enable you to learn and grow... and hopefully be a better person for it

some do, some don't.. however, i would say that most of the time, the damage is done..

5 year relationship? Hardly anyone will be unaffected. I'm guessing it'll take a couple of months for a guy, at least.
How they behave at work is not a good gauge, if they seem unaffected it's because they are professional.... they could be seemingly normal on the outside, but psycho on the inside

well... for me wat i do now is erm...
AVOID...
avoid places i've been with her.
avoid the thoughts of her.
avoid the pain i have.
avoid almost everything.
i know avoidin is not the best choice, cos the pain is still there, but i have no choice.
only doin dat, cn i eat proper meals, have proper slp @ nites.
tinkin of her will only bring me to depression.
but i have no idea how long it will take to get over a breakup.
maybe until the next one dat cn mend n touch my heart n soul all over agn? -

Depends on how long the guy allow the heart break to stay.

It's a matter of finding a new life. Guys are more rational while girls emotional. When a relationship sours and is kaput, most guys who finds new directions in his life will resolve on getting their new life together again. With time, the grief from a failed relationship will just evaporate lor. Time heals all wounds mah........
