giving $ to parents

deg grad currently working as temp... mum and dad every 1-2 weeks ask for $ individually, $100-200 at a time..
very straining on my $, to the point that im living on loti + instant noodles everyday, cant afford to spend more than the bare essentials at all. (> 50% of my pay given to them)... after giving them the $ they are 'earning' more than me lol.. with their low-pay jobs.
will be converting to contract soon, if they know i earning more, sure will ask me for $ more often / larger amount... sigh ~
elder sis no help at all, only keep asking me to find out stuff for her, sometimes borrow $ but nv return...
still have to pay off study loan, cpf loan, own+part of house bills... what can i do?

give fixed amount at the beginning of each month according to what you can afford
and let them know that that is what u can afford to give
ask them to be careful in their spending
because once they spend the money that you give, let them know that you will have no more money to give them, until next month
i think it is only fair this way -
i got one fren even worst he is currently serving ns cant work but his parent take all his ns pay leaving nothing for him coz he can eat sleep and live there

my temp job after cpf is 800+... i put all in bank and this month already withdraw 400 to give them already.. will be 1.6k (min.) for contract soon, same job.

it's important that sometime you can have some extra or 'blow the breeze money' just to do things that you like
like having a nice cup of coffee/cake at a cafe with a friend
get an ice cream
buy a book / something that you really like
get something for your girl
that will make life happier
so try to do that sometime and treat yourself well
especially when you get a higher pay

note on a paper of the bills u need to pay, make sure they can see.

i give my mum allowance once every mth, and she nv ask for more.. i give her more allowance than wat my elder sis give, and both of us are paying for all the home bills.
until month end sometimes she will ask whether i have money to spend. My mum is very thrifty.. she is still giving brother allowance.
talk to ur parents la, give them a fixed amount every mth. -
talk to your parents, lie about your pay, and make sure u do the sums out for them.

Please lor... think about the time period where your parents had to survive on less than what you survived on. I don't think that they cannot survive without your contribution. Discuss with them. if you are unable to give that much, give lesser... -
duno how my dad spends his money... less than a week or so after his pay day ask me for $ liao... then ask my mum. just now went down to get instant noodle he ask me to buy dinner for him...
he only need to pay utilities bill... but always accumulate and pay abit at a time only... so the bill every month at ~300+
sigh... i've got 300/mth of study loans/fees to start deducting soon... all GIRO...lol how to show them the bills... it's silently sucking the money from my bank acc... -
take charge of all the bills at home.
pay off all the bills urself, and give them allowance. This way u can be sure that ur dad wun delay payment, therefore wun increase ur financial liabilities.
buy dinner etc no prob ba.. but if he spends the money on gambling, then maybe dun give him too much. -

me (800+ now) - 300-400 to them
my elder sis married with two kids, also always short of $, not to talk about giving $ to parents... of coz i'll not be able to repay what they have given to me, but try living like how im living now...I don't think that they cannot survive without your contribution. $550+ (all bills + GIRO loan deductions)
$200-400? (give parents)
assuming i'll be getting at least 1.3k nett soon (at least 1.6k gross)... im left with 350(!!)-550 /mth -

bills we pay include - housing, phone, computer, water and electricity, once or twice a yr also got wat TV licence la.. besides all this, we also have our own handphone bills to pay... not to forget.. insurance also... but that's once a yr. -

I understand your agony. Ur case is much worse than mine.
Trying hard to save but in vain. -
i guess the singapore bubble has just burst....there was a time we were told as long as you are a uni grad, you will make it.....reality bites.....utilities will be increasing soon, not sure if you wanna assume that responsibility.....
as someone suggested, giving fixed allowance is best.....must speak to them and tie them to the agreement....tell them you got your own loans to deal with....lay down your law...so your pay is $1.3k...loans $350, then your transport and meals and others...show them proof of your repayment....i would give $300 to them period...one trick you can do is to give both of them at the same time and announce its their monthly allowance....
if they ask for more, let them understand that you got to save for your future too.....i think you are lucky if you can save a paltry $50 a month....sad isn't it, considering the propaganda we hear about how prosperous the country is... -

maybe u wan to tell them tat u r going for course n need to set aside some money.
actually hor, money can be gone very fast, so no wonder they keep asking from u.
