any of you are being brought up by single parents?
my mum is going through a divorce settlement with my dad. i couldnt care less really about my dad leaving the family. but the divorce is putting a financial and freedom strain on myself. single parenthood.
i plan to get a bike nxt year. but my mum has strongly objected saying i have to think of the family and get a car. told her couldnt afford yet she stubbornly denies me from getting a bike. im getting the bike with my own money. not from her.
i manage to get a scholarship. thats where the money comes from. i can support myself. lesser burden on my mum. thats what i thought. but it looks like my mum will be controlling my funds and probably dig out from my money to use for the household. haiz im really tired of this. need to get this off my chest. advantages of being the eldest.
perhaps im not really mature as i thought out myself to be. ah whatever. nothing will change. fake smiles stupid lies. -

my friend grew up with a single parent..
his mother dote him alot in fact.
but TS i need to tell u, since ur dad is leaving
u have to bear in mind tat u are the man in the house now.
u need to take care of ur family.

girls like man with big responsibilities, means they can take care of any stuff that needs to be attended to , like family. In this case, i dont think u would have any trouble finding a girlfriend if they know you are responsible =D

ur mum is going thru a hard time so she might not noe she is giving u stress.
try to talk or prove to her tat u're mature enough to handle it.

well im frm single parent fam. understand ur plight.
imo u shouldnt get a bike. it's far too dangerous riding on 1 . even if ure a careful rider, others might nt b a careful rider/driver. so. take public transport is easier i guess.
well to me...even if if i get a scholarship i will try to manage my own allowance bt at the same time giving some to my parent bah...shouldnt say she dig out from ur allowance. 1st u gt to assure that u noe hw to manage ur own income...den she'll nt really interfere bah... dats hw i overcome it .

But still, as the eldest, you need to set an example for the young...
No matter how much you think they won't follow, you can still influence them a little...
For the bike part... i guess you need to wait a little longer... As, it is not as cheap as you think...
And help your mum a little...
Even if you can't help much with financial, you can help them a lot by putting yourself in their shoe... In other word, think more maturely...
Think about the future instead of current...

Your mom is afraid to lose you too. When you get a bike, there is a 50% chance you might not make it and a 100% chance you will be involved in a serious accident, sometimes not your fault.
I seen so many died horribly from motorbike accidents. Not safe to ride in Singapore when so many cars and people don't always give way. I seen family cry as they collect the aftereffects of ther family riders.
Or you may become handicapped.
Get your licence and ride on holiday in say, Phuket or some country road where there's only you and some chickens around. -
x2. Objecting their child from riding bike has nothing to do with single parent. In fact, almost every parent do not wish their child to ride a bike, esp in sg cos of the accident rate. All of my friends so far who rides bike have accident b4. Not to discourage u from riding a bike, but now then i realise why my parents are worried when i told them I am going to learn riding bike. Hope u can understand ur mother more.

Cheaper to be on public transportation. Bike means petrol , petrol means money and maintenance also money .
The scholarship money is meant to go into your studies and usually they pay into your account , not hers since you are actually old enough to have your own bike. If your family needs some financial help, just give her what you can spare,and cut your luxuries down. -
When you turn 18 next april then decide. You still have a long way to go in terms of your TP tests, be it 2B or 3. Do you really need a car or a bike that badly? Correct me if i'm wrong, you stated that your salary is approx 600 per month. Will taking public transport be more economically viable for that salary?

It is not easy for a women to run the household... really.... and to bring you up, support ur siblings and you through education. Most parents could naturally want the best for their children and could also feel frustrated when they are unable to give what their children desire. Think in her shoes. I believe she isn't having a easy time to handle it.
You probably need time to adjust to a new lifestyle due to the emerging situation.
Without a bike, u can still be happy, don't forget to appreciate the things that you have had now. You can still own a bike in the future when your financial allows but not now. -
