I'm seeking advice for a friend of mine. He's 17 this year & is retained in Sec 3 for the 2nd time. His principal, school counsellor & teachers recommended that he join the army in April (?) as he is not doing well in studies. This is his 3rd year as a Sec 3 NA student leh, what should he do?
Join the army or continue for studying for the next 2 years & graduate when he is 19?
Then after NS, then how? Private?

1) can i ask why is he retaining in his sec 2? Due to playing non stop? refuse to go to school? Or he try very hard but do not do well.
2) ask him where does his interest lies? if it is not study why not let him go to army to rough him up a bit.
I have seen cases where kids after going thorugh army score As... Cos they do not want to be look down by people and wanted to get a better life.
3) age is not a factor when it comes to study. Is better to get a good result later in life rather then stuck with a super poor result for the rest of his life.

He retained in *Sec 3 twice because he simply does not have any interest in studying. Now he is showing improvement but there comes the option of just joining the army instead of continuing to study. He's not stupid or slow. Just lacking motivation. I think that he can improve much more, if he continues schooling.
