I have a friend who recently lost his speech due to stress from overwork. He once told me that his work required him to work until 12am at night in a company, facing the computer whole day long.
After working in that company for about 8 months, he lose his ability to speak properly, sort of stammering in his conversation and becoming very quiet, feeling uneasy and nothing in mind to talk with anyone.
He used to have very high IQ in the past, now he had difficulties counting numbers and remembered even simple things. So pityful.
Anyone know had friends with this problem? What kind of diseases in this? any treatment? It is stressed to work in a stressful, face-paced environment in Singapore!
Please help...![]()
Has he consulted the doctor..
Probably stress-related syndrome.
Best to seek medical diagnosis.
Has he been sleeping enough, exercising enough? Inadequate sleep and constant stress can do that sometimes
He went to see a doctor, prescribe some panadol and pain relief medicine. But for the syndrome, it was left uncured. He slept more than 14 hours on Sunday.
ask him go for long holiday to destress
Frankly, if this continue, he's gonna ruin his own health sooner or later.
Better to start looking for another job.

No point sleeping 1 shot alot when one gets 4 hours sleep per weekday (e.g) + high stress environment. Some people can take it, some can't. Maybe he should consider a different job with less stress or take a long holiday perhaps?
find a psychologist. or a speech therapist. do give IMH a call.

hmm.. has he consulted a doctor? if he does, wat did the doctor say though?
if the job is stressful, maybe he can find another job that is less stressful. you mentioned that he has high IQ --> meaning he's very capable-> in that case, he could find a job elsewhere though.
health is wealth therefore he really must take care because health is something that 's to be cherished though
When this kind of things happen, it mean he shall quit the job. Even the job pays u $10000 per month is uselss.
he needs to quit his job
ur frd's eq beri low one izit? we eberiday, incldg wkends & phs, work way past 12 mn oso wun liddis. stil can tok tok tok non-stop. n dun say tok ah, we quarrel oso louder n faster than other ppl loh.
anyway, ur frd has been lyin to u. i beliv he has been bullied at wk. his speech impairment & inferiority complex arised from psychological disorder.
lemme guess. he's ur bf? his ego wil b dealt another blow if he were to tell u th truth.
I have experienced this before.
The after effect for me is bad health like weight loss, voice loss and mental deterioration. No longer alert, sharp and optimistic as before.Tired easily as well. Can say 180 degrees lifestyle change.
If he hasnt collapsed yet, it is still a hopeful case. At this juncture now, imho he should immediately take a rest from all potentially stressful activity. Dont need to press him to seek medical opinion if he not willing provided he not experiencing obvious health threatening symptoms. Then some1 whom he trust should slowly help him to evaluate his options.
IMPORTANT THING IS DONT WAIT UNTIL HE COLLAPSE. IT WILL BE TOO LATE BY THEN.
take care.
wa lau, your friend should juz talk with his employer about his current work state. But on the other hand, does he take interval breaks? cos if he doesn't take any break it would just add on to the stress.
see doctor, take a long break
Erm probably stress-related or maybe he has some brain dieases or maybe due to the lack of sleep ?
Bring him to see polyclinic and doctor will refer to relevant specialist. Don't ever compromise health.
