well, from my point of view it's how we think manifested itself, which leads to the sadness and so-called 'depression'. remember the time when you are single and never really had any problems about spending every minute of your time, you could be playing sports, hang out with friends etc etc. Then came the time when you got attached, and the hours you would spend with your partner. 3-4 hours a weekday, 5-10 hours on a weekend. you basically live your life on that other person, and had not given yourself time to do your own stuff or the same amount of time on the things that you used to do. Then the person goes away, you're stuck with this 3-4 hours a day not knowing what to do with it, which you usually spend on your partner, so you start thinking about her/him, which brings back all the memories, and sink you into a deeper into the state. This is where they ask you do other things come it, as it will distract you from your thoughts, and thus be pulling yourself out of the 'depression' earlier... =)

Time will heal..... common saying... but I find that the best way to mend /heal a broken heart is to have another target and fall in love..... It works wonders and better than what time can do.
