I know tis a rather vague qns but rely hope to get some advices/ comments from all the regular bike riders here...Don't ride in Singapore. Singaporeans and Singaorean drivers are some of the most inconsiderate among people in developed nations.
Had quite a few close shaves before, and looking back, I think I was just lucky.

there is lots and lots of factors on de road that can easily kill u , from urself riding dangerously and killing urself , to drunk drivers , to dangerous drivers , to drivers that hate to check their blind spot or signal , to sand on de road , to piston jaming and letting u superman , to break down veh left in de middle of the road ..... the list continues ... sometime is just see ur luck la ...
anyway even if u sit at bus stop waiting for bus , a car can swerve in anytime and kill everyone in de bus stop , and it has happen b4 ..
life is very fragile , it can be born easily
(shotgun
) and it
can be gone just like that within secs
sO take it easy and ride safely if u decide to ride a bike one day .

How dangerous is scuba diving?
How dangerous is sky diving?
How dangerous is skate boarding?
How dangerous is learning to drive?
How dangerous is trekking?
How dangerous is horse riding?
How dangerous is bicycle riding??
Everything has its inherent dangers, but you still do them.
Staying at home also has its dangers.

Biking is dangerous, in particular in Singapore.
The traffic here is unpredictable. Car drivers do strange things without paying any attention to their surroundings, and the roads are often congested and slippery.
Been doing a lot of thinking on the safety. I think the important things are a) use proper riding gear, and b) keep your distance to everybody else.
It is hot and humid but my advice is to ride with proper protective gear. Jeans offer no protection. If it's hot, maybe buy some armour you can put underneath the pants/jacket. In particular kness and elbows are in danger. Ankles will be protected by proper boots.
Accoding to statistics, most accident happen in relatively low speeds in intersections, and cause leg and arm injuries. Be aware of that and protect yourself accordingly. Besides, ankle and knee injuries take a lot of time to recover.
Then, keep your distance. 100 km/h is 36 meters per second. It will take you at least a second to react into anything that happens in front of you. That means, 50 meters in the highway is the minimum. Yes, someone will cut your lane and squeeze in between but accept it and just regain the distance.
Keep monitoring your sides. Whenever some is on your side, be prepared to them not seeing you or not caring about your presence.
There is nothing you can do if someone chooses to steamroll you with his/her SUV. However, that is not very likely to it is better be prepared to more likely incidents.
Oh yes, have you ever thought about health? Think about the amount of exhaust fumes you inhale when in the traffic. Anything you can do to filter the air inside the helmet?

true...bu sometimes, the devil in you will tends to take over...sometimes other cars or bikes will tend to race with you...dunno y also...recently encountered a cbr400 trying to race with me...and also a bmw trying to race with me too juz bcoz i tried to go faster coz want to overtake a car travelling quite slow or trying to go faster coz its abt to rain...
Its the rider and other drivers & riders...not trying to say its the fault of others that makes riding dangerous...but they do contribute to the danger...lastly, protective gears alway helps...don't speed ( but who don't? ), try to ride safely such as not recklessly overtake cars or racing with others...
Bike is always at a disadvantage due to its smaller size compared to other cars...they might not see you...hence its always best to prepare to brake or horn when you feel that the cars or bikes around you are riding dangerously...
the worst is during rainy days when visibility is bad...so try to let to the left lane...ride slowly due to the wet & slippery road surface...and try to keep yourself visible...
Last but not least...ride safely!
My apologize for the lengthy post...juz my 2 cents worth...
