Being a specialist is good. It trains your ability to lead people, for you in army now and later in your working years.

Eh, how come never go for course first? Traditionally, it's only one week's training there, siah.
Most likely tio company-line storeman, at the unit itself. The department consists of just you & your CQMS (or RQ, at the HQ level), though any future downgraded troops shall likely be permanently attached to you too.
Not only stay in (unlike your counterparts posted to the supply bases), but kena operational life all the way too (along with the rest of the unit). You'll sleep with them & follow/service their training programme, standbys, etc. though, hierarchy-wise, the QM is offically your OIC.
Of course, in your case excuse IPPT, SOC & range where applicable, as well from field EXs. Instead, you'll just be preparing the water stations, or sending rations, during these occasions. Very busy life; I won't be surprised if you tio key-personnel status for mob mannings & every ICT (once you enter reservist).

These days people posted to storeman only go for course few weeks or even months after they posted to units. Its now more for the sake of having them complete the course on paper than to really learn things since they should have already know most of what they need know while in unit.

In other words, the CQ takes charge of everything himself & treats his storeman as a “runner” (while he learns on the fly)? I suppose that’s all right with a new mono-intake, since an old Stomp thread says 42 SAR is ORDing right now. But he’ll need to be ready come operational life, with the unit auditing, T-loaning to do for standby purposes, overseas EXs, etc. then.

Its an army wide thing i think. My friend who was posted to Nee Soon camp as storeman only went for his storeman course like 2-3 months after he was posted there. Seems like STC is not conducting courses frequently enough or somewhere cockup which leads to the delay in storeman training these days. So far for the past 2 years all storemen i know reports to unit first and only get sent for the SA course sometime later.

If they're really enrolling a new intake, then I reckon you've got it casual for the next 6-7 months. (Casual, not idle or switch-off.) The logistics side, even down at the company line, takes on a more behind-the-scenes role as the mono-intakers go through their BMT & then trade course. Your job shall be mainly to deliver the makan/water punctually & to organize regular changing of bedsheets, things like that.
The downside is zero nights-off during their BMT (must serve night snack, mah) & maybe only limited ones during their course time too (I dunno if they allow book-outs as per the trainees at the formation schools, whenever there's no night training). "Combat" storemen can usually build a rapport with the Hokkien peng during this period, though, vis-a-vis the Tekong ones who are subsequently posted in as commanders & men.
Once everybody is posted in, the unit shall then train together progressively (COY & then BN EXs) to pass the proficiency test & become operational & be eligible for standbys, etc.

That is your yearly challenge. Make sure all your paperwork is in order, you may also need to learn SAF Enterprise System, depending on your RQ.Whos needs to learn the F***ed up system?
However yest went back unit heard from my former workshop ic that things are more stablised now after 1.5 yrs of using the dumb system and my OC tell me that a suggestion that i gave him a long time back regarding the system that was rejected at that time is now being considered and likely implemented in someway but i don't get any sort of credit except the recognition of my foresight by my OC but i finally gotten by testimonial yesterday

Well, finally the testimonial arrived eh..
SAF's like this. They'll take your ideas and you won't find any recognition for it, for most of the middle management couldn't care less.
