I'll be enlisting soon with the SPF for my NS (quite excited actually) and since i know close to nuts about the training structure and other stuff of the SPF i thought i might post some question here.

1. Are direct enlistees allowed to go for OCT course if they perform well? I read from the sfp website and from some of the older posts in this forum that the OCT course is open to those who come from bmtc only. currently i have two friends doing their basic police training and they say its possible to be selected for OCT, however the odds are like 2 out of 400?

2. What is the training/advancement structure like at the HTA? Like for now my BPT is 13weeks. What happens after that. Is there like a police version of sispec after the BPT. What rank will i hold.

3. How much IPPT play a role in terms or being selected for courses or promotion?

I have a Dip and my pes status is A. thought u might need these to answer my questions.

Hello lucky one.

1. Yes but very few. OCT, IMO, will not let you experience your SPF life, as they tend to be posted to do office duties due to their rank.

2. After BPT you'll get posted to different units where you will receive more specialised training. (Eg. SOC go SOC course, NPCO go NPCO courses etc) Progression will depend on your appraisal 9-12mths after you POP and get sent to your unit. Prior to your promotion you'll go for a 1 week course after which you'll most probably have your Sgt rank.

3. IPPT you'll need a silver to be qualified for the more interesting vocations.

Whatever you do, don't apply for the Field Instructor post, which will make you miss out on the ground life.

NPCO will be fun if you like to experience the real world, where drug addicts, kiddy bengs and illegal immigrants will be your prey.

I asked about the OCT course just to measure if it was worth fighting for during my NS. You see, i intend to join the SPF after doing my degree which means its as a SO. So i thought if OCT is done in NS then i don't have to do it again right. But then again another reason is to be on par with my friends in OCS haha joking only...

You said that NSPIs get to do mostly admin work right, so what about regular SOs, do they get to do investigative work?

Interesting vocations ah... like? The only interesting vocation i know other than NPCOs is the STAR unit, but its only for regulars right. So there are other interesting vocations?

Back to rank structure, after BPT is CPL or rankless(SC?)? or is it after the course(NPCO etc.) then CPL.

Yeap, if you become a regular SO, your first posting is investigation at a land division, where you investigate all sorts of cases, from the mundane to the interesting. =)

For dip/a level holders, u should be able to get ur sc/cpl after ur 3 months. then about 12 months before you ord, u should be able to get a promotion to sc/sgt.

if you're thinking of becoming an SO, you'll need a degree first though. Only SCDF and SAF allow NSF commisioned officers to sign on without a degree.

And for some inexplicable reason, becoming an SPF SO has a rather high number of applicants. I wonder why.

If i'm not wrong you'll have to do OCT (9 mths)again if you intend to join as a SO after your Degree as it will be > 2 years after you ORD.. you would want to get clarifications on this though.

I would suggest going the NPCO route, and hopefully gaining a class 3 license along the way .

well your BPT will be ard 13 weeks.. followed by your vocation course’s eg soc , sso , npco , etc.. since u have a dip most likely u will get ur sc/cpl rank when u pass out from hta.. anyway npco will be a interesting vocation and also you will get to know what happens on the ground..chasing after drug addicts, catching illegal immigrants..etc

yup. i personnaly feel that the most enriching experience will be the npco path.

and do take note: for diploma holders, you only get your sc/cpl rank if you have a minimum of a pass in english.

Talking about driving license, i already have my class 3 so there is a conversion course right? who is eligble for the conversion, NPC officers only? And i've never really seen a CPL driving around unless its like to ferry those CSOs in the vans. So if i have a license, will i be 'misused'? Its ok if you don't want to answer the last part

Pass in english as in O levels or is there another test conducted?

You all say that after my BPT i'll be most probably promoted to CPL, why most probably only, any specific criteria i have to meet first?

yes there are CPL’s driving… but i heard nowadays ns npco’s no longer get class 3 licence dunno how true is it.. promotion will also depend on how u perform during your trg…

No , u'll also be issue 11B + warrant card.
There are aso pes C in PNS.

Warrant Card is to identify yourself as a police officer during your course of duties , 11B is your police ns identity..both are different.

Or in short 11B = Replacement for IC during NS, it is also referred as smart card.

if i'm not wrong u will need to pass IPPT and pass O lvls English to get ur Cpl rank when u POP.

11B = PNS IC = No police powers

could be staff assistants or admin posts. or maybe in the support service units. those NSFs in the frontline are usually pes b and above, if I'm not wrong.

How long is police reservist? Is it ten years?

10 cycles.

u not liable for National Service call-ups once u reached the age of 40(Junior Officer), 50(Senior Officer), even u finish ur 10cycles, if u are needed, u still will be recalled if u haven reached the above stated age.

It is possible for enlistee to bring in camera phone during the enlistment date given … ?
