      500 evacuate from Lippo Centre due to fire

      SINGAPORE: Some 500 people had to be evacuated from a downtown building as a result of a fire on Monday morning.

      The fire broke out at the Lippo Centre building along Shenton Way at about 9.05am.

      Office workers decided to evacuate the building as a precaution.

      The fire was caused by a fluorescent lamp which burnt itself out.

      No one was injured in the fire. —CNA/vm
