HAZMAT team called in after white powdery substance appears on vehicles in Ang Mo Kio
SINGAPORE: An industrial building in Ang Mo Kio was abuzz with activity on Saturday morning.
A Hazardous Materials or HAZMAT team was called in after a mysterious powdery white substance was found on vehicles in the area.
A worker at the Sing Industrial Building in Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park 2 said he felt something amiss in the air when he began work before 8am.
The white particles became more visible by 9am and caused skin and eye irritation upon contact.
Those who tried washing the substance off their faces and arms said they felt a stinging sensation.
Fortunately it was a Saturday and not many people were at work.
According to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), the substance was found to be non—toxic.
No one was injured and no evacuation was necessary.
Samples were taken and will be sent for further investigation. — CNA/ir
