i heard from a fren who rents out a shoe shop at basement 1 that she’s paying 80k rental a month. This was 1 yr ago. If we do the math, 200% raise on rental makes it impossible for NLB to justify why they should still stay there. I suppose it’ll be a matter of time before they move out from Esplanade too, can’t imagine the rentals there being any cheaper.

but its taxpayers money. Your money and my money. Arent there worthier expenses to spend on? If it costs 100 of thousands of dollars every month to sustain the library and keep it running, is it wise to keep on paying exorbitant rentals? I do not think the Taka library gets so many visitors either to warrant them to continue operating.
I'd rather they shut it down. Esp when you consider the library at Bras Basah is only a few mrt stops away. -

I'm sure they are...there's a v. small pool of readers in singapore and what they sell is niche products. very challenging to earn alot of money. their location is also sadly not v. prominent. Maybe they can be more sucessful if they rent at places like parkway or raffles city, where there's more expat residents and tourists to boost sales. but again, they have to increase their initial capital to cover rent...its v. chicken or egg...singapore better dont do business unless got alot alot alot of money
