    • Looks like this year will be a crucial year onto whether can Hong Kong keep its World No 1 Container Port that they have held for many years

    • Singapore is world's busiest container port in Q1

SINGAPORE : Singapore was the world's busiest container port in the first quarter of this year, beating Hong Kong by a fraction.

Hong Kong handled a total of 5.28 million 20-foot equivalent units of goods from January to March.

That is compared with the 5.3 million units handled by Singapore port operator PSA in same period.

Hong Kong is facing stiff competition from Shenzhen, where exporters can ship their goods at prices that are about one-third those charged in the territory. - CNA /ct

Think this year may get again... March volume was highest ever, 1.91M TEU, 63,500 TEU per day on avg... Expects handling volume this yr to be at least 21M TEU... Exceeding HK if possible

Jurong Port is actually the unsung hero as well

Well, but bth ports are handling dif type of cargoes... PSA handles 85% transhipment, Jurong port 75% transhipment while HK are mainly 'domestic' cargo

Anyway, PSA's overseas terminal grew by 33% all thks to accquisation of HK's HIT and COSCO-HIT stake Laughing
