    • Hi everyone,

Any comment for First Magazine? How do you find its reviews?

    • i happened to have went thru the very 1st edition.

the impression it gave me was, it was filled with pics that were ripped off the net and have reviews that could have been done better by a local blogger.

    • I think first magazine should not follow the US style of writing so much, cause if that's the case, we can always get western magazine instead.

They need to create a style of their own. A more slightly local, but professional style of comments and etc.

And they need to get more fresh hand information, well, faster than the internet at times. Now is the IT age, with so many movie info sites around, the magazine should get even more info faster than some internet sides. I mean the people who buy the magazines are supposed to be movie fans, and most of them would have visit those movie-info sites where they can basically get info for free.

So the magazine needs to develop a more unique style as compared to simply being a fanboy and american style magazine. It needs to develop a local idendity so to speak.

    • Well it's the only local movie magazine available so I've been buying it monthly at the newstand.

Don't need much substance in this kind of magazines though the reviews are not entirely reliable. A 5 star rating means it's prolly a 2 or 3 for me but still it keeps you up to date with what's upcoming.

I miss the bi monthly EAST magazine. Anyone remembers?

For me, I buy it because I like to read movie reviews. But FIRST magazine( like most of the singapore newspapers)  is usually slower in getting movie information than the internet.  But I really want to see more reviews written in a more local or singaporean tone. Not too singlish mind you, the first magazine is still supposed to have journalist around.

Look at cloverfield for instance. While most movie magainzes and etc don't even know about this movie coming out, a small portions of the internet (the movie fans who visit forums for instance) has already heard some information and rumors about cloverfield.

And add in the fact that in the age of the internet, some people may want to write the movie reviews from some magazines onto the internet, and then, there is peopl who scan the magazines for others to see in the forums.

So FIRST magainze REALLY needs to be the first in almost everything related to movies.
