    • Just did a medical check up recently and for the 1st time I am being classified as obsese. (very sad) ...haha

I am now targeting to lose about 8 to 10kg in 3 months through excercising and controlling of diet (mainly cutting down on alcohol, calories and fatty stuffs). Hence I would like to know if anybody here have embarked on the same program before and if there is any good excercise routine to recommend?

    • losing tat much in 3mths is not a good idea... plus if the only exercise u ever did was with ur mouth [eating] and fingers [clicking on mouse and typing on keyboard], tat wouldn't be a realistic target either... which in turn would make u lose motivation and zeal if u keep missing target...

      start small... and gradually increase...

know wat makes u fat... issit water retention? too much carbo? low metabolism rate?

      wat i did LONG AGO...

      - no sugared drinks, only mineral water or IF i really need something sweet, fresh fruit juice with no sugar added...

      - eat only 3/4 of the food... i still eat my usual food, but i normally don't really fancy fried stuffs...

      - jog 2x a wk...

i lost 3kgs in the 1st 3mth, and total 10kg in slightly less than 1 yr...

    • how healthy is it to lose how much of fats depend heavily on how much fats you have. If you are severely obese, you still might lose more healthily. If you are average, about 1kg per week at the maximum can still be considered healthy enough.

Most important thing is to clean up your diet first, then have a look at your exercise regime. There is no necessity to control or limit your diet. If done incorrectly, it might lead to yo-yo dieting.

    • 1. avoid oil in food.  (I always order my food without oil or order boil type of yong tau foo)

      2. have food that will expand (some cereal that will expand itself after some time) this will make you eat less later.

      3. eat less food but more meals

      4. have companion that will encourage you. (in my case, my nagging wife) icon_redface.gif

      5. for me, it sometime fresh vegetable salad with fruits for dinner ( minus any salad cream. It sometime take me more than 40 min to finish chewing a big bowl)

    • I have started my excercise regime 2 weeks back and the result have been quite encouraging. Here is a brief summary of what I am doing

      Mon - Jog (40-60mins + weights)

      Tue - Jog (40-60mins + weights)

      Wed - Jog (40-60mins + weights + 20laps swim)

      Thur - Jog (40-60mins + weights)

      Friday - Jog (40-60mins + weights + 20laps swim)

      Saturday - Jog (40-60mins + weight) (2 sets - morning and afternoon)

      Sunday - Rest

As for diet, i usually have a proper breakfast and  then fruits and biscuit for lunch. As for dinner I try to cut down on rice and have more veg.

      haha..that sound really familiar..:D

Actually the trick to enjoying your excercise if to have a MP3 player loaded with all your favourite songs. Preferrably some of those more mood lifting music.

I dont think you are lazy, just that you are not motivated to do so.

      I could be bcause

      a) You are too comfortable with life

      b) You think its too late to do anything about your weight

      c) You havent been paying much attention to your health

    • Well, I lost 3.1 kg in the past two months....

I simply cut down on fried foods, limited junk food to once a week, ate a lot more fresh fruits and vegetables, and went for healthier alternatives where possible. Even small things like removing the skin off the chicken before you eat it helps.

And I went running several times a week.... I try to clock 35km per week. Running is good for burning fats, but if you haven't done anything like that before, it's best to consult your doctor first.

As a general rule of thumb, in whatever diet/exercise programme you follow, you should lose no more than 1kg per week.

And seriously, say no to Atkins/Xando/Tummitrim and all those fad diets and pills.

    • I believe losing weight and keeping it off takes lifestyle change... I starting becoming more aware of what I eat and so that helped me lose a little. But nowadays, I had got lazy and put it all back.
