Canadian parents board flight, leave toddler at airport

OTTAWA - TICKETS, check. Passports, check. Luggage, check. Baby ... oops.

A family boarded a flight on Monday in westernmost Canada, and forgot their toddler at the Vancouver international airport, media said on Tuesday.

The 23-month-old boy's family had just arrived in Canada from the Philippines, but they were forced to repack their overweight bags before catching a connecting flight to Winnipeg, causing them to run late.

In their sprint to the gate, the family became separated.

The boy's father, Mr Jun Parreno, told local media he had thought his son was with his wife and the boy's grandparents, who ran ahead. They thought the boy was with his dad.

On the plane, the family members were seated separately and so did not immediately realise they had left the child behind.

Sometime later, a security guard found the boy, who speaks no English, wandering near the departure gate, and Air Canada officials tracked down his shocked parents on the flight.

Because the boy was so young, he was not issued a boarding pass and would have sat on a parent's lap during the flight, so airline personnel did not notice a passenger was missing.

According to the Vancouver Sun, airport security found a Tagalog-speaking Air Canada agent who looked after the child while his father flew 2,300km back to Vancouver to pick him up and then return to Winnipeg to rejoin the immigrant family on their first day in Canada.

The baby was kept in Air Canada's offices and staff found him some toys, said local media.

'Air Canada took good care of him,' Mr Parreno told the daily Winnipeg Free Press upon arrival. 'I'm grateful.' -- AFP

    • It's not these high-profile cases that need the snip. I had a little dispute with a Chinese couple that let their kids make a racket on the train yesterday. When I said that they needed to be more responsible for their children's behaviour, they used expletives in front of the young ones as well - and thus they proved my point. icon_twisted.gif

    • not surprising. My child's cousins who are infants, are all left outside the shopping mall while their mothers shopped in the mall... their perspective of child raising is far from oriental.

JOHOR BARU - A 27-YEAR-OLD man allegedly raped his four-year-old daughter repeatedly at their home in Kangkar Pulai.

The contract worker's heinous act was uncovered when the victim complained of pain in her private parts.

When the mother, in her 20s, inspected her, she found blood in her daughter's private parts.

The girl then told her that her father had done things to her, which prompted the mother to lodge a police report.

Nusajaya OCPD Supt Abd Aziz Ahmad said police picked up the suspect on Tuesday.

'Initial investigations revealed that the suspect committed the offence repeatedly at their home while the wife was busy taking care of their two other children.

<!-- show media links starting at 7th para -->'The victim has been sent to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital for treatment and a medical check-up,' he said.

Supt Abd Aziz said the suspect might have committed the offence since early this month.

He added that the suspect also has a six-year-old son and a three-month-old baby. - The Star/ANN.

    • Look at the case of the austria man who locked his daughter up for 24 yrs and had 7 kids with her. He's your poster child. Over the last few week, there was so many reports of fathers abusing their daughters, child abusers and etc. This world is getting sicker every minute.

icon_eek.gif icon_eek.gif  You're lucky your little bro didn't tell your mom then, otherwise, you would have been skinned alive!  icon_lol.gif

Actually, back in those days, it felt a little 'safer'.  Not sure whether pedophiles were still in hiding then or the practice wasn't so 'popular' then.  I think the thought might not even have crossed most people's minds back then...

WTF?!?! Not leaving a 1 year old home alone is considered overprotective?

I can think of many compelling reasons why you should not leave such a young child home alone.

What if the little tyke opened a gas main, or decided to play with a chopper?!?! Will those morons think that that's just normal excusable childhood curiosity?!?!

Those morons need a lobotomy, stat.

Precisely!  HOW the hell can a mother leave a little one-year old bub all alone at home is utterly beyond me.

Then again, there are lots of dodo's inhabiting Planet Earth.  icon_razz.gif
