The 36-year-old odd-job labourer, a Mr Sun who lives in Block 4 - where she fell - took his shirt off to cover the 16-year-old, reported Shin Min Daily News yesterday.
She was crying, said Mr Sun, who described her as 'very beautiful'.
She injured her leg and is now at Changi General Hospital, where she is conscious and under observation.
Eyewitnesses told police that the girl was squatting on the ledge outside the window of her boyfriend's home. Then she leaned forward, lost her balance and fell.
She is believed to have climbed out of the window after quarrelling with him.
Yesterday, when The Straits Times visited the one-room flat, no one answered the door of the corner unit.
Many neighbours were unwilling to open their doors too. Those who did were reluctant to go into details.
A 44-year-old crane operator, who wanted to be known only as Mr Neo, described the girl as 'petite, slim and pretty, with big eyes and short hair'.
Another neighbour, known only as Madam Lim, 63, who lives two doors away from the boy's home, said in Hokkien: 'I've seen her around here since last year but I don't know much about them.'
She added: 'Here, the people are very complicated and we all mind our own business.'
The boyfriend is a full-time NSman who lives with his mother, who is in her 40s, neighbours said.
He is helping the police with their investigations and those with information about the incident may call 1800-255-0000.
