    • I am wondering there are times when I took a taxi, the taxi driver will drive quite slow like at 60-70km/h on expressway and take the middle lane.

So I am thinking it is because drive slow they will earn more money from me or was it because LTA & Traffic police ask them to do so

Let compare 2 Taxis from Changi Airport to Tuas, both drivers will use ECP & AYE and drive at the same time. But, one of them will drive at 70km/h and the other will drive at 100km/h. So which one will I have to pay more???

I HATE IT WHEN TAXI DRIVER DRIVE SLOW

    • not much difference to fare since meter moves mainly by distance… the driver may have different driving habit or have pick up appointments made or just preoccupied… But all things being equal, driver definitely earn less if he takes more time for same trip. Time is money.. Remember, when there is a jam, the pax pays more and the driver earns less for the day

    • Ridiculous to drive a Crown at 60km/h .... the driver won't fall alseep meh ?

      I drove 90km/h i almost fallen asleep ....

No difference , as far as customer's money is concern , but does make a massive difference for that particualr cabby , he wasting his time ma .

Time is money for cabby .

    • Thank ALN & Poolman for your reply

But, there is something which I don't understand is that both of you have wrote that the driver will definitely earn less if he takes more time for same trip and it will make a massive difference for that particualr cabby

How come?? In what way they will earn less???

Then ALN also wrote when there is a jam, the pax pays more and the driver earns less for the day. Will the driver earn less when there is a jam because the pax will have to pay more when there is a jam and therefore the driver will earn more.

So Poolman, how fast will you drive since you say you will fall asleep if you drive at 90Km/h??? Let me guess 110km/h to 130km/h

Do let me know if you drive at 130km/h because I want to take

    • What ALN and Poolman mean is that cabby will earn less for the day, not just that particular trip. If the cabby drive slowly, he will make fewer trips and therefore earning less.

    • Yup correct.

In fact, if pax prefers a route with many traffic lights instead of faster expressway, me also sian..

also, i observed that the max income per hour ($30) is earned during off peak without any booking or surcharge as long as the connection is good... no jam is most important than surcharge

    • I think every passengers have to communicate with the taxi driver on their preferred route when they board the taxi.

I have been taken for a few joy ride by taxi drivers when I did not mentioned the route that I want to be taken.

Commuters and taxi drivers will alway have conflict of interest.

Some of the taxi drivers have to resort to drive slow to milk more from each passenger as there is a possibility that they have to wait for a while to get another commuter.

I actually do agree with what Medicated Oil has said that some taxi driver will drive slow so that they can get more money from this passenger as they might have to wait for a long time to get another passenger. This make more sense to me.

got one day after midnite.... i take cab... from tow to wlds... this driver speed all the way..... very fast one...... and reach my place... plus the midnight surcharge... only 20bucks......... Shocked Shocked

    • Town to Woodlands $30? seems on the high side. I drove from Town to jurong west extension it's about lower $20 plus after 1am.

Anyway, if you take the same route with same surcharge (after or before 1am got different surcharge), the fare should be very close or no different regardless of speed unless there are waiting time at junctions involved.

I think for your case, the taxi driver might have taken 2 different routes

If they drive slow, they will take longer time to earn that same amount of money... thus reducing time for picking up other fare during his/her shift...

If in jam, though the meter is still jumping but when you compare with the money that you receive when you pick up a fare... you will know the difference...

And what about the place you board and alight are they at the same place.

and not to forget what types of taxi you take because some taxi the meter fare start at $2.50, $2.80 and even $3.00

If i drive fast , i might be able to connect another customer , so in an hour , i might earn myself $30 for instance , but for this turtle driver , he might only be able to earn $15/hour .

If for instance , ALN got a customer from Suntec go AMK , CTE jam , so half hour he earned only say $10 .

But if i got a customer from Suntec to Jurong , no jam i hit Jurong East within 20 minutes , but $12 .

      Saw the difference .

That 10 minutes , if good day , i can take another short distance , from Jurong East to Jurong West in 10 minutes , i earned another $6 .

      So ALN earned $10 , i earned $18 in 30 minutes .

Just because he stuck inside CTE .

That's not sensible , as far as i am concern . As far as MOST cabbies is concerned .

For me , i alight u fast , i am always ready for another customer .

The best in 3 customers in an hour .
