    • Reported in the ST news....cabbies are earning $187.92 per full day shift.  Any one here makes $5.8K.or more?

Very soon we will see more new taxi-drivers on the road.  Everyone would want to be a taxi driver with this kind of remuneration. This is a very good strategy (advertisement) for the taxi companies to clear their unrented vehicles.

    • Possible ..... but will die young ... die cock stand .

To earn that money , he must start work at 6am , non-stop ... all the way til 2300hr .

Eat , shit , drink , sleep all inside the taxi !!!

If i am a robot , i will earn more than that amount !!!

Per hour rate , now , average can get $25 per hour , multiply by 17 hours of work = total collection $425 each day , minus rental $105 for Sonata , diesel $50 , total salary $270 per day .

      $270 multiply 30 days =$8100 .

      $5800 still too little .

    • Is that amount based on the average taking of taxi drivers? Or were the more 'successful' cabbies interviewed only? Taking into account the per-day rental of the taxi itself and the diesel (I think taxis use diesel fuel... right?) what are the other taxi drivers left with?

Ah well, just my two cents worth.

(>.<) Those jobless people will probably rush to queue up at the taxi company application counters.

    • This is how Comfort come out with those figures .

He took only average OMO daily income .

If one cabby start work from 6am to 6pm ....

If base on $30 per hour .... yes this is what i earned average per hour .

      12 hours x $30 = $360 cash collections from customers .

      Sonata rental $105 , diesel per day say $50 ..... total deductions $155 .

      $360 - $155 = $205

      $205 x 30 working days ?

      Nett salary = $6150 .

Very closed to what the TS stated .

No ! This datas is from OMO only .... One Man Operation !!

If split into 2 shifts , one cabby can never earn that amount .

If base on my prolific day shift partner , he earns about $4000 maximum each month . Sunday off .

    • Base on current trend , day shift drivers earn more than the 2nd shift evening drivers .

    • The ST stated "Full day shift " .... ya la OMO .

I cannot denied the fact , it's possible to get that amount .

Very tiring .... 2 years down the road , will get phobia about driving any form of vehicle .

Mentally and physically ......... the damage will be done within 2 years .

Not every cabby can earn that amount , this amount is meant for experience , season drivers .

Newbies can never get that amount , just ask David Chong !!!

      I said that because i know , i am a cabby since 2002 ?

If i can manage that , many old bird can do it easily .

If their body can manage , i conceded , cos my body cannot tahan .

    • I said again , if one cabby set a target of earning $200 a day , what he need to achieve on daily basis , is

      $200 salary + $105 rental + $50 diesel = $355

$355 divided by $25 average per hr , he only need to work hard on the road for continuous 14.2 hours daily .

As in possible 6am to 8pm , reasonable timing .

I seen many OMO does that .

    • Between 10am to 4pm, to take in $30 per hour, you need to be very lucky.

Poolman, dying young or dying cock standing is not the problem, when cannot die but saddled with kidney disease, gastric disease, stroke etc, then.......VERY BIG PROBLEM. Somemore cannot work but still got to pay medical bills.

These figures were said to be taken from taxi meters and a survey of 300 cabbies by Comfort.

Me think Comfort must say we cabbies have benefited from the fare increase or they (Comfort and Transport Miniistry) will look very bad after their decision to increase fares. Killing 2 birds with one stone, makes them looks good and at the same time possibly clear their stock of unrented taxis.

Anyway a normal driver putting in regular and some OT hours  will not see this kind of salary unless 'Ti Kong' is with him/her always.

    • Ya la .... 10am to 4pm is always difficult .... some cabbies tactically , they just know how to get this amount , like my relief , solid old fella .

I ever asked him , how he did it ?

Q-up at taxi stand lor !!!

But my relief really sucks , he eat inside the taxi while Q-ing , packet rice  , urine only a few times each day , i dun think he shit at all during working time ....

11 hours working time  , only maybe 15 minutes he's out of the cab . urine and buying food .

    • For me driving the night shift, in fact I had less customers but the higher fares made up for it.  Business had not pick up overall. Commuting timings has also changed, eg. before cinderella hours there would be a frenzy of customers hailing cabs but when midnight charging time starts the streets are deserted.

That;s why time is precious, before midnight must at least make some money, there after it's lucky draw, queue here, queue there and hope for a long distance fare.

    • Agree that 5pm to 8pm weekday business still bad… plus jam… i make more after 8pm consistently…

depend on your driving style, me don’t like driving 5 to 8pm weekday… irritating and can’t earn much… 3 things i dont like about driving taxi… no pax, jam and short trip in this order…that’s why 830pm to 11pm i like best
