I remember seeing this somewhere on Yahoo before, and when I convert the foreign currency to local currency, this decoder is only like $200 odd. And of cos this is illegal. By selling at $350, wah....... big money, big money!!!!!!

FYI, shipping charges from e US to here can easily cost more than a hundred bucks, n u can't confirm tt e decoder u buy is using e same frequency as e one here. Infact, u can't even confirm if it works. Basically what SCV81 is selling is called a "black box".
A decoder (set top box) is modded to be able to descramble channel signals so that you are able to watch all channels.
Sadly, this is ILLEGAL to use as it is considered Signal THEFT.
Black boxes was a prevalent problem in North America that cable operators gave up and switched to digital signals. So far, there are no cases of signal theft yet as encrpytion is far more sophisticated.
Black boxes have a few types, and you need to get one that is "bullet proof". What it means is resistant to "shut down signals" sent by Starhub.
As a cable operator, they are aware that black boxes exist and the most practical solution is to send signals (or "bullets") to shut down your signals so that you can't watch unauthorised channels.
A cable operator IS ABLE to detect usage of black boxes. Since the problem is not prevalent in Singapore yet, I guess this issue has been low profile.
But in North America, Cable operators who cracked down on black box users often sue the users and they may be fined up to US$18,000 for lost revenue. The fine varies between US States and Canada provinces. -

If we buy from you, and then ganna caught by the operator, do you take responsibility?
For would-be buyers, think it would do you guys good, if you can just get his IC number, in case anything happens. You never know what kind of shit you would get into from buying illegal stuff. It's just not worth it. -
Basically, SCV81 doesn't want to say explicitly it is illegal for use. Since whether the buyer use it or not is his/her (SCV81) business.
In my view, just buy them and use them at your own risk. (Caveat emptor)
Detection is likely, but action from cable operators are unlikely until this has become a big enough problem.
I worked as a cable guy (yep those who visit your house to install decoders and wire the house) before in Canada, I know how these stuff work, and how they can dun work.
Buyers just make sure what SCV81 is selling is usable indefinitely because Starhub periodically send blocking signals to lock out black boxes. -
