That's why they are horrible drivers on the NS Highway. They think they have the right to take the 1st lane and cruise all the way.Originally posted by TRD_Sport_M:do u all know, it wrong to stay on the 1st lane @ 90km/h when a car coming @ a higher speed, u must let him pass....
if not, it consider road hogging... so many singaporeans dun understand, all 90km/h @ 1st lane think they are correct.
Well, there's the law and there's our perception of the law. By courtesy, we should not hog the right lane. But if ppl wanna talk about "Who's RIGHT", then the guy travelling 90 kmh on right lane has done no wrong. He's juz inconsiderate.Originally posted by dansplace:Smart Mr Guitarman, do you for one minute expect the TP to say that its fine for you to overtake a vehicle travelling at 90kmh on lane 2? Won't they be implying that its ok to speed? I thot this was explained in the other thread...
Its all about courtesy, move to the left if there is a faster vehicle.
Any driver who thinks that travelling above the speed limit is legal should really retake his theory tests... no wait, he/she should re-check his ability to think... its a speed LIMIT. Sheesh... why did the govt implement the penalty for those who block the path of ambulances? If the person at the back is in a greater rush than you, let him/her go... its not about speeding, its not about road hogging - if we could see this simply as courtesy then singapore would be a nicer place to live. I am actually impressed by this practice by many taxis nowadays...Originally posted by guitarman1:...
You'll be surprised how many ppl are confused about this. Since the speed limit is 90 kmh, you will obviously find some ppl travelling in middle lane at 90. Then the only logical way is to speed to about 110 to overtake on the right, right? So people will definitely think its right? Although this is all logical, but if a TP happen to be there clocking cars, you will still kena.Originally posted by dansplace:Any driver who thinks that travelling above the speed limit is legal should really retake his theory tests... no wait, he/she should re-check his ability to think... its a speed LIMIT. That one got separate law/gazette (whatever) stating that you should let ambulance/police pass, so no need ponder. If you block, you are wrong. But normal car don't have special privileges what.Originally posted by FaTe_TwisTer:uhmm wait im confused. lets look at this scenario. If someone is travelling at the speed limit( 90km/h) and behind the car is an ambulance or whatever car thats in a rush, is that car wrong to be travelling at 90km/h and at the same time road hogging? *ponders*![]()
what about if you see from your centre mirror escort car coming and you travel within speed limit,Originally posted by guitarman1:WRONG WRONG WRONG, u guys are wrong. The person have the right to travel 90 on the right lane. Anyone speeding past 90 to overtake is considered speeding.
Road hogging only occur when you drive below the speed limit and are blocking other users.
TP got reply to one of forum brothers on this before. I can't find the post, but I read it. Although they try to be ambiguous, it indicate that there is no offence if travelling 90 on rite lane, however, a speeding offence occurs if anyone go over the road limit.
Their reply was sumtin like tat
" A road user travelling within or at the speed limit of a certain road is not guilty of any traffic offence."
then
" If another road user exceeds the speed limit under any circumstances, whether overtaking or not, he is guilty of a speeding offence"
Although they did mention something about it is encouraged that users only use the right lane to overtake. But I don't think its a law that says right lane is STRICTLY for overtaking.
Can always write in to them again.
No need to be escort car, any ambulance, emergency vehicles or Blinking police vehicles and you don't give way is enough. Even if you travelling at 120km/h still have to give way.Originally posted by zaxis:what about if you see from your centre mirror escort car coming and you travel within speed limit,
u give way or not?

My whole point here is : If the situation allow, drive courteously. Move to middle lane, overtake courteously etc.. Of coz we all commit traffic offence here and there like speeding and illegal u-turn.Originally posted by AF1:Yup, I agree with demolition that exceeding the speed limit on the road to overtake is legal but not constantly over the speed limit... I remembered when I was learning driving a few months ago, there was once I had to change lanes quickly and also overtake the front car. The next lane had a car that was quite far back from mine but also travelling fast. At that point of time I was already close to the speed limit, but the instructor told me to floor it and of course I went over the speed limit just to flow with the traffic according to the other lane. Imagine, if I kept within the speed limit which was 50km/h, I could not have possibly change lanes quick enough and that might have caused the fast car to brake hard just to keep to my 'L' plate 50km/h speed limit. I guess in everything we do, we have to be flexible and that includes driving too eh?
