I went to test drive the Latio again, this time with 3 others (so we packed 5 in total in the car including the sales person). when I tried accelerating, the car was noisy. is this typical of CVT engines? any of the latio owners out there have the same problem? I read a thread of Honday City which also used CVT having the same problems. inputs welcomed!
Latio are quiet cars. According to SE, there are noise blocking cardboard to block the noise from engine to the driver's seat. Maybe you should test drive another time, if it is still noisy, it maybe either your tolerant level is low (cannot accept small amount of noise) or that test-car does not have noise blocking cardboard. One more reason, the test-car maybe ramped too much by other test-drivers and engine is "out-of-order". I test drove Sunny before I bought Latio, the engine noise was extremely loud. Actual fact, I have went lunch with a few sunnies, they are quiet.
You may also want to accelerate slowly at about 1500 rpm and slowly increase to 2000 rpm (max 2200). It should be quiet at these rpm. Anything above 3000 rpm is a bit noisy.
