Picanto Vs Getz

hi everybody. i'm turning 20 this year and my family is thinking of getting an small affordable car that is just able to be used as a transportation for a long period of time for around 5 - 6 years. I know that there are some models that is very affordable these days and this two model strikes my attention. With understanding of auto cars has a higher FC compare to good driving habits on a manual cars. It's seems like picanto has a gain by having an 1.1 5Door manual at around 40k than getz 1.6 3Door manual at around 48k. Am i right by saying so? In term of performance and overall could anyone give me advices on which car is better? Any owner of these cars having problem yet? sincerely thanks for your valuable advices.
I'm affording the car on my own with slight help from my parents. Do Kia or hyundai sg provide 0 dollars down payment?

kia does not provide 0%. Max can go 95% only. This is my case, although SE may say it is possible and he will try for you. Even for me as civil servent, I can get only 95%, so you dun expect a better deal. For the other 5%, you can pay by crecit card 0% installment, so i think it is fine.
Personally, I feel picanto is a nice car. Every time i on the road, will look at it if it passes by. Very attractive. If you are a gal, then it makes you very compatible in a picanto. -
Considered Kelisa. It have similar FC compared to Picanto, but a slightly more power in the low-end (low speed) range.
Back to your question. I would go for Picanto if I am down to these 2 choices.
Pros:
5 door vs 3 doors.
Manual option available.
Great FC if you know your footing.
Much cheaper to maintain. (road tax, fuel, up-front price)
Cons:
A little smaller cabin and boot space than Getz.
Slightly weaker in the quality side.
Smaller wheel base, stablity compromise. -

95% should be fine with me. regarding kelissa i don't not particular like it due to it's size and design. getz 3 door might be a prob for me if i am using it for family purposes. But for picanto is it really difficult for this car to last?

also..other cheap model includes aveo, rio, accent wira etc.
do keep an open mind. else u are just narrowing ur option out to only picanto the cheapest car.

My advice is for a small car get manual trans,you can try to drive a picanto auto up the ECP slope you will have the engine screaming at 4000 rpm while progressing at 20 Kmh
Personally GETZ,Picanto, kelisa are out for me too small if really have to chose I willl get the GETZ 1.6 -
5K more and you get Daihatsu Siron. Great FC, good power, quality engine and design. Then you don't have to worry about reliablility. Seriously, what makes you think Getz will out last Picanto!

i am driving the new rio and my comments hope can help you see if you can consider this anot...
driving is very smooth. I tested (manual) picanto, aveo and both of them are not as smooth as new rio. Unfortunately, i nvr tried getz, so i can't compare it with my rio. So if you have tested picanto, then rio will give a better ride.
FC wise, i am still running in, so a bit poor at 9km/lit. Hopefully it will get better, though another thread suggested my calculation is flawed. I just top the 2nd tank, so need to wait a few more days to top agian. Then i can tell you the consumption.
power wise, a bit poor. Maybe becos i din rev hard(cos still running in).
can't hink of other things liao. Overall, i like my car. very nice...

Bro, 9km/L even for running in is considered high already. When I run in my kelisa, it is 17km/L for the first 500km, 15.5km/L on the second 500km. Now I get ave 17km/L, with air-con on, semi syn oil, cutting most cars. I was running on shell 95, recently change to Shell 92. With 9km/L, and you are saying you didn't have a heavy foot, that is scary man. These FC figure is going to turn lots of potential buyers away. Do keep us updated on your FC figures.

With 9km/L, and you are saying you didn't have a heavy foot, that is scary man. These FC figure is going to turn lots of potential buyers away. Do keep us updated on your FC figures.

hmm... isn't the picanto down at 40k for it's manual transmission? hmm... great intro to the daihatsu sirion... i think aveo is out of my budget already... moreover... this is my first car and i am supporting it on my own...

Will, I did say didn't I. Getz isn't any better than Picanto in terms of Reliability. So go for Picanto. Tell you, that FC is going matters a lot in the long run. Not yet actually... kinda gonna ask my dad to do it... he's more sensitive and believe that he has better experiences... i might be settling on picanto due to the cheap price... just worried bout resale value or maintainence fees after a period of time... thanks alot for people that guide me through... hope to hear more advice from picanto driver if they are facing any problems with their picanto... i do see alot more of them these days on the road compared to a few months back.

Any tips on how to go about buying a picanto? the process and how much is it gonna cost me if i taking a 95% loan? including the paperwork & insurance and all the 'hidden' charges that i dunno yet... =)

Just as I though, although this car is capable of relatively good FC. But due to its slightly slow reponse, its FC can really go bad for heavy footer. Of course, no issue reving along the NS highway, still can afford.
Anyway, I was only able to average 140kph when I roll to KL. Of course with air-con and 2 passenger plus luggages. Was a little hard pushing over 140kph. On another occasion, my friends (also Kelisa driver) smoked me like don't know what they do to their car. -
Wow, I gave up on chasing "Si Fei Low", people's engine 2 time ours. Actually, I have to rev 4th gear to 5krpm, 140kph. Cause 5th gear really cannot accelerate fast enough. 110kph is my 3rd gears up-shift point to 4th. In small cars like ours, you have to hold 4th gear till 4000rpm, about 110kph, then switch to 5th gear. If not, you'll "smell no smoke"
Anyway, we'll never rev it beyond 120kph on Singapore roads so it's ok to give it some workout occasionally
