high beam is legal....but only use it in total darkness if not u'll irritate other road users...Originally posted by Ponders:Then people who use Hi-beam while driving leh? it's equally blinding.
So am i right to say using those 55/65w -> 110w PIAA 6000K bulbs are illegal?
But PIAA say those are SAE and JIS legal and as far as I know singapore uses JIA as a benchmark.
the answer say its advised but if the owner choose to use one that exceed the rec. wattage is it illegal?Originally posted by zerocool85:Qn: Are halogen bulbs that produce whiter light allowed?
Ans: Besides HID headlamps, halogen bulbs that produce whiter light are also allowed. These bulbs are designed to filter out the yellowish spectrum, hence emitting a whiter light that helps the motorists to see what's ahead at night.
However, vehicle owners are advised not to use bulbs that exceed the recommended wattage rating by the vehicle manufacturer. They should also ensure that headlamps are properly aligned after replacing the bulbs to prevent glare that might distract other road users.

Yea, the proper levelling issue is a very true fact. IMHO, i feel that after market HID installations should be allowed on certain conditions.Originally posted by LazerLordz:HID and xenon bulbs have been in use and recognized since 1996.
Euro and JIS standards. What's illegal is the aftermarket modification using those bulbs and not installing the proper levelling.
Many people complain about the brightness, but when the trend increases, your eyes will adjust.
Actually for Singapore, I don't think HIDs are even necessary. Streets are bright enough. I guess HIDs are more for countries that have certain areas which are not properly litted. In Singapore's case, just for action 1 2 3 purpose.Originally posted by the Bear:well, they should know what they are doing first..
thing is, i would think that most with these lights point forward instead of point down at an angle.. the "levelling" bit i would think...
i almost crashed my car once because some (again) SUV-type turned the corner and the beam went right into my eyes, blinding me totally for a few seconds..
anyway, wanna ask.. what's the point of these lights in singapore?
Yea, I understand your point. Banning aftermarket HID is not going to help when you have so many SUVs running around with stock HIDs not even levelled properly with regards to other cars.Originally posted by the Bear:well.. then except for driving up north, it would be safe to say that those with these lights, who do not drive up north, are just wasting their money
i don't actually care if they throw away their money, as long as they do not endanger others on the roads...
maybe if the gabrament wanted to target these people, they should go target the SUV-type car owners first.. the lights are a lot higher than the normal lights of cars..
Ban SUVs! They use up more fuel than cars with less drag and 2WD, and are dangerous in a crash.Originally posted by AF1:Yea, I understand your point.
