For your information, Geely cars are being sold in Europe now and they have also attended the latest Detroit Car Show.
And to those who are jeering "Made in PRC" cars, come over and take a look at the "Made in PRC" BMWs, Audis, VWs, and Mercs. To most of us, we can even tell the difference in standards (by the way, the Audis A6s here are bigger than what you are getting in Singapore). Mark my words, very soon, most continental cars in Singapore would be "Made in PRC"! -
hey when they're finally up to standard AS AN INDEPENDENT CAR FIRM, we'll praise them. but until the time comes, expect the criticsm to come.
as for cases where already established car firms open manufacturing plants in china, u're forgetting that the manufacturing is done to their standards. the fitting is also done to their standards. The QC still has to be up to Audi, BMW, Mercedes etc 's standards. Ok? They have a written set of rules there saying, this is the minimal standard, if the finished product does not meet it, it is either rectified, or junked. So it doesn't make a difference whether it is made in china or made in USA. besides, maybe u dunno, but most car manufacture and assembly plants nowadays, are heavily reliant on robotics and largely automated. so all u need to do is to program a certain set of instructions into them, and they will work the same way whether they are in china or in europe. the quality is there, because at the top its still the Europeans, Japs n American car companies in charge. -
The prob with chinese cars is that most of the work is still done manually (read it in some magazine or paper), so it's inevitable that you will get lapses in quality here and there.

I think our ST group is capable of doing so... it designed the BX after all, among other SAF vehicles. this Geely owner initialy they make motorise for farm, two wheeler, they are in Ningbo, I visited their factory, most of the parts are from toyota, their first few car logo also copy toyota, till 2003 or 04 they won a court case against toyota

lying to oneself is honestly not the best way forward. if people can take criticisms and improve from there, they can only get better. if they can only turn defensive, then progress won't happen. hey seriously if they're that good, why need to have a logo that is so similiar to toyota's that:
"In addition, a survey commissioned by Toyota revealed that two out of three car buyers mistake GeelyÂ’s logo for ToyotaÂ’s trademark, helping Geely garner sales. Toyota also alleges that Geely misled its customers by claiming that its Merrie cars used Toyota engines."
If the car is as good, there is no need to resort to such underhanded methods.

An example of application where it misleads others into thinking it is a toyota:
I don't think I need to say more. Their QC, materials quality, interior fit etc are all not up to standard yet. Probably resembles the cheap plastics used in the mid-90s. If they were as good as all the china supremacists here claim, they can develop a completely unique look and still gain a share of the market, instead of having to trick consumers into thinking it is a toyota, in order to gain sales.

anyway they won that court case because:
"Other problems that beset the Chinese automotive industry are lack of protection for intellectual property and widespread industrial espionage. Chinese authorities do not recognize international patents or trademarks. Imitation is not considered intellectual piracy. The consequences are dire: Toyota lost a lawsuit against the Chinese manufacturer Geely for copying the Toyota brand logo."
they lost because the chinese govt protects their own companies including when they conduct something that is arguably criminal.
