That is good news! I am considering the new Altis, Mazda 3 and Sylphy. I am currently driving Corolla 1.6 GLi Auto for the past 4.5 years and am very very disappointed with the FC, only 9~10 km/l on Spore road. My previous Civic Sir can do better even after 6 years.Originally posted by healthy88:Yup. my FC monitoring is based on full-tank to empty to full-tank.
my mileage now is 2.7k.
My last two FC is 13.3km/l and 14.2km/l.
It's the 1st time it went above 14, wow! and I got my full golf bag in my trunk even for the whole of that week. I'm pleasantly surprised.
My previous car uses disc brakes, i cannot feel the difference between the current drum brakes and my previous car disc brakes. I had the unfortunate chance to use E.brakes on the CTE! the car in front stop suddenly and i was caught surprised ... fortunately the brakes are very effective!!
actually to date, I have not gotten use to the foot brake yet. I guess i'm more use to the hand brakes. On steep slopes, i have not tried balancing, anyway i usually just transfer my foot from brakes to accelarator, slide back a little on car park slopes.
just an update ...Originally posted by healthy88:I got my Sylphy on 12 Apr. & have been monitoring the FC. This is wat i got to date:
before 1k servicing - 11km/litre
after 1k servicing - 13.7km/l, 13.5km/l, 13.7km/l & 14.2km/l
I'm using Shell 95 and Mobil/Esso 95.
Driving 60% expressway/40% city
As it's engine running in period, i'm pretty light footed, though at expressway, i travel ave. abt 100kph... on & off abt 110kph as its quite smooth ....
on the ave., it's abt 11.9km/l. That is good FC for a 2l car.Originally posted by sohigh99:Date Liter Unit Price Amount

Did you spray yr Sylphy under-carriage with 3M or Tuff Kote?Originally posted by healthy88:just an update ...
mileage: abt 4200km
FC:- 13.05km/l & 13.2km/l
coming to 5k servicing soon.
Sorry to write Civic story here on Sylphy thread. This is just to follow up above message from healthy88.Originally posted by healthy88:on the ave., it's abt 11.9km/l. That is good FC for a 2l car.
In fact it's better than my civic ESi and Vti I drove previously. Strange isn't it ...
It wld be more helpful if you could reset yr mileage everytime you top-up yr petrol and jot down on the receipt so a more accurate FC can be computed.
Then you can compare yr driving habits if you FC is high & adjust the habits.
Do you drive more on expressways or city?
I did not spray the under-carriage, basically I think cars will sell off within 5 yrs to enjoy the OMV and COE payback. Unless you go off-road, I think it's a waste of money. Better to put the $$ for something you can enjoy immediately, e.g. I.C.E. or good solar film, even a trip to m'sia.Originally posted by MistyLavendar:Did you spray yr Sylphy under-carriage with 3M or Tuff Kote?
Thanks!
So what if it is a gimmick ... you are buying a car based on its specs and your req'ments ...Originally posted by NsxBleam:I think Sylphy is just a gimmick, i heard malaysia replaced their sunny with sylphy and sg is making it look like a superior model to the sunny's.
To me, maybe FC has improved. But overall looks.. too lady like..
I was thinking hard on whether to spend the $300+. I did tuff-kote for my all my previous cars except the most recent 1.6 GLi because I was told then that my car already had a coating of anti-rust. Nissan cars do not.Originally posted by healthy88:I did not spray the under-carriage, basically I think cars will sell off within 5 yrs to enjoy the OMV and COE payback. btw, I used to tuff-kote the body & under-carriage for my 1st two cars, felt a waste when i sold off the cars. The 2nd owner benefit ...??
As long as you do not go off-road often, i guess its ok not to spray under- carriage... just my opinion. As for the body, i send my car for regular grooming, so I dun tuff-kote now. All my previous cars were tuff-kote.Originally posted by MistyLavendar:I was thinking hard on whether to spend the $300+. The sales executive's reasons for spraying the under-carriage:
1. To cover up any exposed metals that are not protected
2. Cover up any holes/gaps, especially the wheel housing, reducing part of the road noise.
3. After this initiate coating, one can chooses not to follow up on subsequent years.
If I am not mistaken, with the new OMV rates, one must drive the car for 6-7 years to maximise from it. The 5-yr period is true only for the old cars where the OMV was 130%. Please correct me if my understanding of this new OMV rate (110% or 90%) is not correct. Cannot verify on One-motoring now as the service is closed after midnight.
Thanks!
Above applied only to cars registered before May 2002. Folowing scheme apply to car registered after MAy 2002, which will apply to yr Sylphy:Originally posted by healthy88:As long as you do not go off-road often, i guess its ok not to spray under- carriage... just my opinion. As I just sold my car, I dun think the policy change that quickly.
Basically, car sold within 5 years, you get rebates of 130% of OMV,
5-6 yrs -120% of OMV; 6-7yrs - 110%, etc. Above 10 yrs, nil.
So depending on how old yr car is when you sell, the rebates apply. I like my old car and had planned to use it till scrapped 10 yrs, but simple math show it is not worth it. Better to sell and use the proceeds to get another new car, else when the car COE expired, you get nothing and wld have problem getting even a small car.
ok. thks for info. Still the same bottomline ... sell before 5 yrs is up.Originally posted by MistyLavendar:Above applied only to cars registered before May 2002. Folowing scheme apply to car registered after MAy 2002, which will apply to yr Sylphy:
For cars registered with COE obtained from May 2002 tender exercise and onwards

Just took delivery of my Sylphy! I paid for the 3M Rust Proofing. From the flyer, this protection is a multi-purpose, rubberized coating for undercarriages, wheel wells and fenders. It is designed to protect metal from corrosion and abrasion. It can also be used as a sound damping coating to reduce outside noise.
Anyway, I am surprised by the sound-proofing of my Sylphy 1.5. Could hardly realise that the engine had started when you turn the ignition switch. Just filled up my first full tank (Shell 95) to monitor the FC during break-in (first 1600 km). Hope to have some data to share next week.
Did Nissan change engine oil on first (1000 km) service?
Thanks.
TC will give mineral oil for 10k service. Need to pay for synthetic oil. They will advise you to top-up money for synthetic, but the amount they charge is as high as buying the oil on your own.Originally posted by healthy88:......
Tan Chong will change the engine oil at the 1k & 5k servicing. However, it's minieral oil and not synthetic ones. Not sure at 10k km serv. I wld top-up for synthetic if they use mineral oil then.
tx. Guess its more worth it to change to synthetic oil at 15k mileage.Originally posted by fondue:TC will give mineral oil for 10k service. Need to pay for synthetic oil. They will advise you to top-up money for synthetic, but the amount they charge is as high as buying the oil on your own.
Since the mineral oil is FOC, i'll just take and change to synthetic again 5k later, or maybe another round of mineral oil and then synthetic at 20k.

what car do you drive now ... & what cars have you driven previously.
Well, the next service should be at 20k. You might want to go to your regular workshop to change to mineral again at 5k, and then to synthetic at 20k/30k etc interval in tandem with the servicing.Originally posted by healthy88:tx. Guess its more worth it to change to synthetic oil at 15k mileage.
I am due for 15k servicing next week, am still undecided if I shld change to synthetic or stick to mineral oil. Using synthetic, i wld not need to come back till 25k, i less trip to serv. leh ...Originally posted by fondue:Well, the next service should be at 20k. if you ask me, i wld say civic looks better and feel more sporty on the outside. Personally, i think sylphy is better on the interior. It's still yr decision what you really want.Originally posted by den_eve88:test-drove the sylpy yesterday.. My mother was quite or should i said Very Tempted to buy it as price for Civic is quite high... 76k for Civic, 67k for Sylphy.. almost 10k different...
But my personal opinion
a.) Civic cornering is good, sylphy quite stiff...
b.) Civic interior more "tech" then sylphy
c.) Civic more of a driver's car.. (better performance)
d.) Dun really like Sylphy Foot Brake..
e.) Sylphy stock wheels quite ugly..
f.) Sylphy is more spacious than civic.
g.) Sylphy more towards luxury type of car. (suitable for my mother) haha
Exisiting Owners of Sylphy 1.5, is the Sylphy a worth buying car? Has any owers did some light tune to it?
